Smallville worth watching?

Hi All,

I have just started watching S1 of smallville and so far its so so. I quite like the idea but so far there seems to be a lot going on in a small town and every episode he going to whup some ass but there just happens to be kryptonite near by...................

Is it worth carrying on with as I have heard some good things about it?

Cheers!

Re: Smallville worth watching?

Season 1 is very much freak of the week, stick with it as it gets so much better even if you are not an existing fan of the DC universe.

Re: Smallville worth watching?

Its a funny thing is smallville. I was right into it then i lost interest big time. I dont even know which season it was but i persevered somehow and am glad i did because it then picks back up and just keeps getting better. While it might not be in my top 10 shows ever it is still pretty damn good and is one i would happily recommend.

Cool Re: Smallville worth watching?

Each season seems to improve on the last, I think 2 was a lot of freek of the week but started laying down long term plots.

A lot of series start weak and improve as they go on, Stargate was the same and Enterprice too till the 3rd season before that got good but by then people lost intrest and it was cancelled after the 4th.

There is a good reason for that as you will find out!

Stick with it as it is a very good show. Series 4 unfortunately lost its way big time, but it came back and then some. Some excellent episodes and great performances.

I'm a few seasons behind myself having watched up to 6, so hoping to catch up on blu.

Thanks all. Will persevere!

Just been spoilt having just finished BSG and re watched the Sopranos, everything else seems pointless and lightweight!

Re: Smallville worth watching?

Early seasons are good

Then it becomes silly roughly around season 5. I stopped when I had enough of C4 messing about with the sched back in the day but like to be updated by a friend. And it is still silly

Your experience may differ, at least there are lots of pretty people per American television

Without doubt, it worth sticking with.

I caught up a few years ago from Season 3 all the way to 5 in a short space of time (even managing two episodes a day sometimes! )

Last season was a let down, but so far this season is really strong. Once Lois arrives, its gets a whole lot better...

Re: Smallville worth watching?

Smallville was brilliant at the start and went down a bit but it has came back again and got a lot better than it once was. I've only seen episode one, two and three of season 9 but it looks very promising this year also.

Definately stick with it as it's worthwhile, that's my advice.

Re: Smallville worth watching?

No it's not worth perservering with unless you have an abundance of time. I did sit through 5 maybe 6 seasons (3 was the best by far) but Smallville never reaches heights worthy of a show lasting this long(8+ seasons). Try Buffy or Angel both much better even in their lows than this in it's highs). Honestly when you have such a bland character in the lead role as Clarke Kent it's not a good sign! ofcourse Lex & Lionel Luther add some richness but not enough to justify the show.

Re: Smallville worth watching?

Thanks for the replies all!!

I will keep watching and see if it picks up I think. Seems to be enough good comments to at least give it a go!

....Oh yeah & if you're NOT looking for lightweight then this definetely is NOT for you. You can't get more lightweight than Smallville...well perhaps Charmed or Ghost whisper but you get my drift.

Re: Smallville worth watching?

This was quite good early on, and a family friendly programme. Have tried to keep up, but series behind at the mo, only recently finished series seven, and still on the early episodes of eight. IMO if you are a new starter watch the ear;ly series, Don't want to say too much over the probs without going into spolier mode

Re: Smallville worth watching?

I bowed out on this a few years back as I couldn't stand the dawsons creek crapness of clark but I do catch the occaisional episode just to see lois but havn't seen any of the new series so can he fly yet?

any spoilers etc then use the tags but he must be in his mid 20's and surely has to be flying by now.

The first half of season 8 after the budget cut and change in show runners was very very good, it dipped after the mid-season break and that was when Lana came back and for many she has always been the weak link.
Season 9 has started pretty well with the series as a whole exploring other DC elements along the lines of the Justice Society and I don't know much about that but it's turning out to be quite entertaining and well we've not even missed Lex thanks to some good bad guys

As for flying then it's one ability Clark still hasn't mastered but it's all in his head and the training he started at the fortress would I expect have led to that but it got interrupted for a number of reasons.
I think when Clark flies then the Smallville phase of his life will be done and Superman as we know him will be born in the same way Chris Reeves version spent years at the fortress before arriving at Metropolis years after leaving the farm.
