good tv guide that keeps a search and emails as & when?

Thinking of something like the 'save search' function on ebay, which emails you if an item comes up, for upto a year. Lost count the number of times i've noticed an old tv series on, that i wish i'd caught from the start of its re-run (would also be great for old films too). Not sure how you would define series one. or season one, but is there anything out there?.

Hi,

The only one that I can think of that does anything like what you want is the superb "DIGIGUIDE", which is free to buy and trial for 14-days, and then cost around £7-99 per year, for a full and unlimited subscription.

I'd highly recommend it, as not only can you tell it to only remind you about certain genres of programming (reality TV, news, sci-fi, etc), but you can set-up reminders to:

- remind you of repeats of specific episodes of shows you've missed
- remind you of repeats of specific seasons of shows you've missed
- remind you when a single specific film/show is repeated at anytime in the future
- search for other shows by similar genre, or by starring specific cast members or directors (e.g. all shows that Mark Dacascos has starred in, or all war films shown in the past 3 months, etc)

As an example, alongside the usual reminders of specific shows, I also have my Digiguide set to remind me:
- when Hallmark will be repeating all of Season 5 of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit"
- when FX are repeating all of Season 3 of "Tour Of Duty"
- to highlight any show or series on any channel that is transmitting the first episode of the very first season, whether it be a new show, a repeat, or something that I've simply missed
- to remind me when Ugly Betty is showing, but only on C4 and not E4, etc, etc.

You can see more about the software, and download the trial from here! It won't e-mail you, but as long as you have your PC running, and the software running, it will remind you at any time you tell it too, prior to the show starting (e.g. 5 minutes, 2 hours or whenever). Alternatively, you can simply print off each day's personalised listings, or use them as a reminder of what you want to watch/record that day/week.

Does that help?

Thanks Pooch, i did think about Digiguide, but didnt realiise it did this - i thought it would only remind you about something already listed in its planner.

Great stuff anyway, and i'll definelty give it a go

Hi,

DG is extremely customisable! For less than a £10 a year, it's Highly Recommended! I still buy both the Radio Times and TV & Satellite Weekly alongside DigiGuide, because sometimes you don't want to use a computer, just to see what's on, or to check for a bit of information.

As I said, other than the e-mailing bit, you can leave DG running in the background on your PC, and it'll do 99% of what you appear to need it to do. And for a free 14-day trial, you've got nothing to lose.

Oh, I forgot to mention: you can also customise the channel list, so that you can have:

- just your own chosen channels (which is what I have, as there's no point downloading listings info for channels you'll never watch/can't view)
- every Sky channel, or
- every Freeview channel

They can also be ordered in whatever way you want, e.g. A-Z, terrestrial then satellite/cable, or simply in your own personalised setup of preference from most watched/populat to least watched/popular.

Let me know what you think of it.
