The Restaurant

I couldn’t see a thread on this so I just thought I’d remind everyone that a new series starts this Thursday on BBC2.
For those who are not aware of the format just think of the Apprentice but with Raymond Blanc in place of Sir Alan.
The contestants each open a Restaurant and each week they are given a new task/theme and the worst performers are closed down.

Highly entertaining show IMO

Caught the second half of the 1st episode, I like this show, but the contestants I saw looked pants, hopefully the talent was in the first half of the episode I missed!

A wicked, for some reason I thought I saw the first episode last Monday (26th) so missed it this week (2nd)

It's also in HD

Lke Toasty said, I thought the contestants were generally very bad but I'm sure some will shine through. The salmon salad thing was laughable, I coulda done that!

If there is talent it is well hidden but half the fun, just like The Apprentice, is watching talentless people make idiots of themselves.

Re: The Restaurant

It was pretty good last night.
The couple that went out seemed clueless and the Husband looked like an Alcoholic (George Best anyone)
In fact there are some stange looking people in this show, first we have the husband and wife team that actually look like Brother and Sister then you have the Army guy who looks like he hasn't eaten in months. Then there are the two 80's throwback Duran Duran wannabee's.
The best two by far were the two young guys from London.

Re: The Restaurant

Just like the The Apprentice, seems that they've shortlisted too many crap contestants for car crash purposes

Victor and Victoria Pollard should have been out just for not knowing anything about sushi, save the thickies' definition of raw fish .... like the nice but dim bloke from last year who was fired for his poor Mexican themed night

The two lads who did well (and excellently salvaged the failed Pork Wellington signature dish task in week 1) seem like the only credible pair there

I just want to punch those two new romantics as soon as they're on screen.

They wind me up so much, was funny when Raymond had a go at one of them in the first episode for winking.

I like the london duo. Rags to riches, the chef seems competent and hard working, shame about the choice of partner who seems to have an attitude problem.

Hi, i'm looking for a bit of help please if anyone out there can. I'm looking for the pair of glasses that David Moore wears in the show but after much searching i have had no luck. Does anyone have any idea about what designer they are or anything? Thanks a lot.

Down to the final 3 and it's not a strong bunch. In fact almost unbeliveably the couple described as the pollards above are probably now the strongest couple.

The other 2 couples have one strong person and one hugely weak link, we have can't cook won't cook and on other team the guy who turns into a rude, moody, defeatest ****** as soon as things arn't going flawlessly.

What are the chances of them picking no-one? I think it's a possibility. This series also seems to have gone really quickly and we've not seen a lot of their actual restaurants and concepts with regular customers as yet. Still good TV though of course.

I agree Ithink there is a real chance that none of them will be picked, I cannot believe these were the best they could get for this series

I said the same to Mrs H. There's no way I'd go in to business with any of them, by far the weakest group of contestants in the three series so far.

They've changed the format and it's down to 1 episode a week, from two, now, the challenges have also gone. I much preferred the previous two series

I agree I wouldnt pick any of them to win.

Cant stand the 2 cocktail guys even though 1 is a decent host but it shard to judge him if they arnt cooking there own food or the sous chefs are cooking for them because they wont get as many complaints.

The other couple the guy with the attitude is terrible its a shame as his partner is a good cook.

The married couple are average at best but id rather them win than the others and even though there cake was a disaster it was easily the hardest to do.

No winners

Another vote here; if it was me I wouldn't pick any of them! But someone has to win and I think it will be 'The Front Room'

Last weeks episode annoyed me a bit in the sense they were giving two people a task to do that proved impossible. The two blonde fella's had the most custom (even tho they bought their food in) but it was wholly impractical for just the one guy to serve all those people.

Im sure Raymond Blanc must be thinking where did they get this lot from ?

This weeks show just reinforces what the guys on here have been saying. noone should win !

Still can't believe JJ and James (the new romantics / 80s throwbacks / the non-cooking BSer + David Cameron lookalike) are still in the competition
- I can't stand vain nobheads like that with their post modern flatcaps and scarves

I really don't like the change in format to this show, presumably a budgetary thing to halve the eps, remove the weekly challenge for the two poorest performing couples, and have them all in one city ... BUT we have lost some of the important performance indicators like budgeting and £takings!

Watched the most recent episode last night...oh my it's got worse and worse, if that's possible!

I watched Masterchef:The Professionals earlier this year and they decided to let all 3 cooks through to the final as they were (agreeably) all such fine cooks. Yet the situation in this show is the opposite..they're all so crap they all might as well stay and embarrass themselves for another week!

Standing by my earlier prediction of The Front Room taking it in the end

Totally agree, what a couple of 'agents' they are. There was a program that would have suited 'JJ' fine a few years back , 'Can't Cook - Won't Cook'

I was wondering if the halving of the episodes was down to the show going HD, one would hope not but there has to be some reason for taking a perfectly good show and castrating it

I've been watching top chef for the last couple of weeks and now after watching a good chef competition I'm finding it really painful to sit through an episode of the restaurant, it really is awful compared to previous seasons and this singles episode was probably the worst so far.

That's it...

I no longer watch Big Brother since they threw that poor girl out for alleged racism, X-Factor since Simon threw out Lucie....now I can no longer watch The Restaurant. Kicking out the Pollards on favour of Jedward is just plain daft. Blondie just can't/won't cook.

I thing the series has lost alot this year by being shortened, and by not featuring The Manoir.

Suspect Raymond's reputation will suffer as a result of this.

spoiler text in case you've not yet caught this evening's penultimate ep ...

Unfrickinbelievable!!!! No takers for their cookery class, and a rather cheesy demo of how to slice beetroot and add cream cheese to it (again without any cooking) and those nobheads get through!!!! I really hope their arrogance and lack of humility are repaid with total humiliation next week

Was a shame about Badger & Barrington a few weeks ago ... I thought Badger was rather good (possibly the best) front of house despite his crisis of confidence about dealing with civvies.

when those 2 guys slap hands it makes me cringe they do it no matter how bad they do they always think there great.

yeah true about Badger he really did make the customers welcome.

Someone who does this show should be sacked for the changes made and the terrible contestants.

I can only think that Raymond has a thing for the won't cook lad, it's quite bizarre how he keeps going through. What was the dish he prepared for Raymond to show off his skills? Battered Slices of Red Pepper and dip, whoopie doo
