Re: Has anyone got anything good to say about HDTV

Define decent.

Are you talking about content or pure image/audio quality because even Blu-ray is subject to the preferences of a director and his DP and budgets for TV (and movies to a lesser extent) also impact.
Even the choice between using 35mm film and HD video can make a world of difference but be aware the difference doesn't mean bad HD compared to good HD, it's all HD just depends what the viewer perceives.

So are you Freesat, VM HD or SKY HD?

For PQ, SQ and pure entertainment excellence... for me it has to be Fringe

Well you can't go far wrong with any of the natural history or nature programmes on Disco, History or NG. Wild Russia is stunning, Deadliest Catch is fine HD considering the circumstances as is Treasure Quest but in truth apart from show which use a lot of archive stuff (WWII Apocalpse etc) most of the documentary stuff is excellent.

You won't go far wrong with any of the big US imports on SKY1HD either although FXHD tends to be a bit variable as Burn Notice isn't that in yer face yet NCIS and True Blood looked fine.
I don't know if you have sports but HD footy rarely looks anything buy gorgeous and the same for most HD sport, the WTCC races on Eurosport HD are incredibly smart.
As for movies well they more than anything have huge variations in methods of production and artisitic license so take a look at the Good and Bad HD movie threads.

MOst of the stuff on Rush HD is great. Really sharp and it's the channel I first looked at when I got my new HD TV.

+1 it's got the lot

Also, appreciate it's not on at the moment but Lost has provided some of the best PQ I've seen on SkyHD across any channel.

See here for list of good PQ movies on SkyHD.

Knight Rider (the new one) on Sky1 HD looks stunning to me. Shame it's complete rubbish though!

Re: Has anyone got anything good to say about HDTV

I watched the first episode of the latest series of Bones the other night and thought it looked superb.

Why do 95% of US programmes look so much better filmed and lit than practically all BBC drama which always seems soft and badly lit and dingy ?

Re: Has anyone got anything good to say about HDTV

british hd has now got so bad i think it's a total crime to even label it hd. even ch4 hd is now so soft and indistinct, bbchd is a total joke, and sky have been cutting bitrates too from what i've heard. not happy, and i'm going back to spending my money on my 2 chanel audio system.
