US/UK Sitcom Recomendations

I was wondering if anyone can recommend some sitcoms to download that I may not be aware of.

I have been watching Curb, Entourage, 30 rock, How i met your mother, bored to death, srubs lately and wanted some tips on others that are similar.

Californication
The Office (US version)

And if you like Curb and 30 Rock I can't recommend It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia enough

The Big Bang Theory - Only one I watch at the moment.

Also, surely Entourage isn't a sitcom?

Re: US/UK Sitcom Recomendations

The first 3 seasons of Coupling were great, the fourth one went rapidly downhill, as one of the regulars left.

The Inbetweeners is brilliant, funniest UK comedy in ages.

I don't really like any US sitcoms but I would also suggest "The Inbetweeners" and also "How Not To Live Your Life", currently on BBC3.

Re: US/UK Sitcom Recomendations

I watch (and have watched) alot of US stuff, and one thing that stuck out was something called Arrested Development. Completely unique in my opinion (some people say it's like Curb Your Enthusiasm - I don't however).

Check it out, perhaps one of the best things to ever come out the US.

Re: US/UK Sitcom Recomendations

Another nod to the US version of The Office. If you're familiar with the UK version, then start with Season 2. It's still going (S6 is playing currently) and is quality.

Also recommend Peep Show.

I've never heard people say it's like Curb, only that fans of one are frequently fans of the other, and then usually post "if you like this, you'll also like this", when they probably already do.

Both top US comedies of all time, and an Arrested Development movie is supposedly in the works, all the cast have signed up, but the script seems to be taking ages.

curb is fantastic. i remember seeing ricky gervaise interview him and on the strength of the few clips i bought a boxset of the first four seasons and watched the whole lot in something like a couple of days in a marathon session. i've never seen seinfield but a friend who has them all on dvd is going to loan them to me for another marathon viewing session, maybe at christmas

i've seen people mention curb is like marmatite, you either love it or hate it. i suppose it depens on if you can associate with the character or not, which is what most of the people who like it seem to do. he just says what you are thinking but wouldn't dare to say, and always ends up putting his foot in it

the woody allen movie he made with larry david is also great, it's quite similar to curb too

Re: US/UK Sitcom Recomendations

Thanks so far. I have seen Arrested Development mostly on BBC2 who as they did with Seinfeld missed a huge trick but shuffling around the schedules eventually shunting to a Sunday graveyard slot. Have to say I love Curb but dont think its at all like Arrested Development, I would say its more like the office in that LD and Brent are both get into excruciating situations.

Though LD and Brent are opposites ... Brent is self-conscious/deluded, LD just moans about many things we'd like to moan about, perhaps a bit too much, and exposes a lot of stupidity and hypocrisy, but then gets caught up in it himself

Re: US/UK Sitcom Recomendations

CYE is an odd thing to watch, the first few minutes I'm almost nervous that nothing is going to be funny, but by the end, some of the scenarios Larry gets into are just hilarious. For me you have to watch an entire series of CYE to get the absolute gems, because I'd say only 70% of the material hits.

It'll be no surprise that I was a big Seinfeld fan, the difference here is almost every Seinfeld show, especially season 3 onward, will have you laughing inside 5 minutes, well for me anyway. But its a lot, lot lighter than CYE. I've been re watching Seinfeld recently with a big grin on my face and will be going on to CYE S1 again too. Can't wait for the CYE Seinfeld reunion bit in S7 either

I enjoyed Arrested development but didn't always find it hilarious, a couple of the characters are a bit grating, but on the flip side, some of them are pure genius!

Fraser was another good one, but this is played to death on the comedy channels if you have these. As is Everybody Loves Raymond, which is my guilty pleasure, I think its fab. King of Queens is ok, as is 2.5 men and scrubs, but I have to admit, I do miss a stonkingly good sitcom. The ones that come close are CYE, Entourage and The American Office.

To add some UK balance, Spaced, Red Dwarf, Blackadder, Black Books, Inbetweeners, Outnumbered (well I liked it), IT Crowd, father Ted and peep show amongst others are worth a pop.

If you like like beyond the knuckle jokes and lots of swearing, then check out 'Lucky Louie'.

Re: US/UK Sitcom Recomendations

Just caught something called "The Thick of It" on BBC2. After some research. It was the series that "In The Loop" was based on (spin off film).

Both are hilarious and worth checking it. I'm off to start watching The Thick of It from the beginning

And yes, Directors of Communications are really like that, believe it or not. I shall say no more

Thanks for this post, tried the first 4 on your list and loved Community, Cougar Town and Gary Unmarried. Didn't really enjoy parks and recreation though seemed a bit too stupid (have only watched 2 episodes though, will probably give it one more if I get bored).

It massively improves in season 2 (6 eps in S1, and S2 recently started and has been picked up for a full season), great ensemble, is quite a gem now imho

Re: US/UK Sitcom Recomendations

If you haven't already watched it then try "My name is Earl"
IMO this is hilarious.
As for UK sitcoms, how about "Peepshow"? Series 6 just finished on Friday.
It's a very different comedy and one that has you hiding behind your hands in embarrasment as the two main characters resort to more and more desperate measures.
