American Dad superior to Family Guy! discuss!

Sorry I've gotta say it

I am a huge fan of family guy but frankly the weak flashbacks are getting silly (yes they are funny at times) but it gets very predictable.

I truly think American Dad is the better adult cartoon.

It very rarely uses flashbacks
Each episode is a complete story which makes sense (unlike Family guy which at times is just 20 mins of random jokes -funny but random)

Family Guy is starting to turn into the Stewie and Brian show. When the focus moves away from them the episodes are very weak.

All of the characters in American Dad are funny in some way

I look forward to American Dad each week more so than Family Guy (I personally think they need to stop family guy focus on a Stewie,Bruce spin off - get rid of that Cleveland rubbish too!)

P.S That Disney segment in the latest family guy episode was amazing though!!

I'd agree. Family Guy passed the baton to American Dad a couple seasons ago. I wouldn't go as far as saying Roger is Funnier then Stewie but he defo defo has his moments.

Re: American Dad superior to Family Guy! discuss!

Family Guy has got very weak in my view over the last couple of series and because of that I'd probably prefer American Dad now. The last FG Series I saw on the telly was so poor I stopped watching part way through and I've not even bought the DVD.

Roger! o my god! sooo funny (The outfits, the cocktails, the outfits!, the mood swings)

Not better than Stewie but I believe the interaction between Roger and the rest of the family is alot better than Stewie and the Griffins.

Re: American Dad superior to Family Guy! discuss!

The other problem is that Stewie hasn't been given so much air time or so many evil things to do and they've concentrated more on Peter being stupid...... just like they did when The Simpsons lost the plot.

True but I do like that alot of the episodes have focused more on the relationship between Stewie and Bruce and I seriously believe that they need a spin off!

Apart from their relationship though there is nothing else really that great about family guy

Yes its funny but thats about it - its good for a laugh but i'm starting to dislike the controversial comedy they are using (sometimes it seems so overboard that its just silly - i.e the latest Jew episode)

American Dad is funny without the need to steep so low (and that to me is the sign of better comedy and better writing - the ability to be funny without being crude)

Infact now that I think about it I haven't bothered watching Family Guy since the Stephen King episode. It was truly rubbish.

Re: American Dad superior to Family Guy! discuss!

Yeah, 'Family Guy' has really lost its way in the past couple of seasons though I've personally preferred 'American Dad' since it first aired. 'South Park' is the best of the animated series on TV though. As for 'The Simpsons', I used to religiously watch all the new episodes but now I find I mostly stick to the classics as the quality has dipped dramatically.

I like them both, but can appreciate your point. American Dad has better scripts and storys.

BUT... Brian and stewie jumping to alternative universes, was brilliant, i had to pause at the "pick up my poop Brian!!" till i wiped away the tears... and quagmire discovering internet porn...brilliant!

o my god!

yeah how funny was that!

Family Guy does still have its moments - but thats all family guy is - MOMENTS.
The stories are bad, the flashbacks are silly but the interplay with brian and stewie is fantastic

American Dad on the other hand doesn't really have moments, but overall excellent stories.

But Quagmires biceps ! hahahaa I was seriously in tears !

I really should have done a poll with this?

Do you think its possible for me to create a poll and then have the mods merge the threads?

American Dad Vs Family Guy - Poll

Which do you prefer and why?

Personally I now prefer American Dad
better stories, better jokes.

Family Guy is very predictable with recently the only good things being stewie, brian and quagmire.

Re: American Dad Vs Family Guy - Poll

I voted american dad.

The 1st 2 series were brilliant, and easily bettered the family guy series at the time.

But I thought the last series of family guy was better than american dad (at US pace).

This series of american dad, although only 2 episodes in, is better than the family guy thats running along side.

I've watched the 2 cleveland episodes, and am not impressed at all.

On a side note, has anyone here seen the Seth Macfarlene Comedy Cavaclade DVD ?? Some great scetches on there

Family guy for me. Has me in stitches. American Dad just comes across (to me) like a modern, loud, brash childrens cartoon...

Re: American Dad superior to Family Guy! discuss!

While I think Family Guy has been on a downward spiral for many seasons, I really don't think American Dad has ever been anywhere near as good as Family Guy . I still watch all new episodes of Family Guy but stopped buying the DVDs a few seasons back (UK seasons). Whereas American dad has never made me even follow every episode on TV, I only watch it sporadically because it's not really that good.

Ill be honest ive not watched American Dad for a long time, watch a few episodes in season 1 and it waasnt for me, ive dropped of a little on family guy recnetly too but just stopped watching the new series and for me its as good as ever, the time machine episode, internet porn some quality stuff.

If American Dad is still the same quality as S1 im sticking with Family guy i just didnt think the characters were that funny in American Dad.

yeah the time machine episode / disney

was the stand out - fantastic episode actually

but other than that the stories have just been a hell of alot better in American Dad

It does take a while to get used to the characters in American Dad though so if you didnt like them in S1 then i doubt u will like them now
