Annoying Animated Programme Trailers on Channel 5

Am I the only person to find the animated programme trailers being beamed to my TV screen annoying and instrusive.

I have no objection to a broadcaster advertising a forth coming programme during ad breaks or credit runs but I do find it annoying to suddenly see a pip of for example the Hotel Inpsector dusting away during the middle of a programme.

Will be interested to hear if anyone else feels the same or is this just a sign of my getting cranky as I get older.

Exclamation Re: Annoying Animated Programme Trailers on Channel 5

Hi,

It's not just you that this kind of "advertising" irritates. It hacks me off too. The thing is, many satellite and cable channels are now doing it, most noticeably the UK Sci-Fi Channel, Bravo and Virgin 1! Heck, even the BBC almost does something similar, by crushing credits, and then doing a voiceover AND mini-trail for what's coming-up in less than 60 seconds! They clearly think that all viewers are total morons!

It's not only to get around the OFCOM rules about "restrictions to how many minutes of ads can be played in one hour of TV", but it also stops people recording (and keeping stuff) on TV too!

Unfortunately, it probably also aids people into downloading material off the Net instead! So, the TV channels that do this animated advertising, are ultimately just shouting themselves in the foot.

Yes, one more thing in the downward spiral of television presentation.

Re: Annoying Animated Programme Trailers on Channel 5

I've sopped watching C5 and Virgin because of these. It's bad enough to have to watch a logo all the way through (except of course during the ads on C5), but this was the last straw.
Pity because they have a few programs I would have watched like Mentalist and Ghost Whisperer.
Maybe they don't care it's alienating viewers, and they have such high ratings they can afford to let me go?
Don't suppose anyone from these companies would dare comment?

Re: Annoying Animated Programme Trailers on Channel 5

The worse placed one was during NCIS season 4 when it was first aired. They put a CSI coming next ad almost in the middle of the screen !! I saw a bad one yesterday for Hostel Inspector. It had a woman come up on the screen have a sip from a cip of tea and walk off !!!

Don't be surprised, if you get a reply at all, if it includes something like "in a competitive multi-channel environment" and "our research shows that the majority of our viewers find these helpful"

No matter which channel I've complained to about these annoying banners, DOGs etc... without fail, if they reply, they all have some variation of the above in the reply. I reckon it's the same bloke that works for all the channels just responding to these sort of complaints

In the real world, not the one inhabited by TV execs, I don't think I've encountered anyone that does actually like or find useful all this screen garbage.

The majority of people must now, or if not now, certainly within the next couple of years, will watch their TV via some sort of set top box or integrated STB and I'd be very surprised if you could find one that didn't include some sort of EPG, where at the press of a button, you can immediately find out what channel you're watching and what's on next, shoulf you want to.

We don't need all this on-screen crap

Re: Annoying Animated Programme Trailers on Channel 5

Sadly i saw this as inevitable since seeing this sort of thing during NFL coverage. It's highly irritating to me - 10 times more than just a brief message without animation.

If i'm watching a show, i dont want a distraction

I just seen one advertising South Park on Viva during Two and a half men. This one had audio so they almost muted the programme and yanked up the audio for the animation.

Unbelieveably, it gets worse on Viva.

The whole program (even if it is cribs) gets a corner of the screen with a 30 minutes ongoing repeating advert for two and a half men.

Is that 14,000 posts

Angry

Hi,

The Channel Five ads are becoming worse and more "prominent"! They're now appearing during the various "CSI" and "Law & Order" franchises, and often appear at the most inopportune moments - namely during dark scenes, so the ad appears more brightly-coloured and vivid, and hence, more irritating! Even during other shows like "FlashForward" and "The Mentalist", they are so large, it's getting beyond a joke!

The ones for Justin Lee "Cornwall" Collins' new show on Mondays, are bloody hideous! Five are now even showing their stupid competition questions during the final few minutes of many of their US imports, as if we're all too stupid to wait another 60-seconds until the show/episode actually ends!
