Filming has begun today on next year's Dr Who. Here is Matt Smith in costume togrther with new companion, Amy Pond, played by Karen Gillan.

Re: Dr Who 2010

very old-school-Who type costume ... I wonder if he has elbow patches too
- I do hope the ?s never return!
... just waiting for another pre-emptive Daniel Craigesque rant by someone () before the series has even started

Gillan looks much nicer in this presumably candid photo, than in the earlier slightly moody-faced publicity shots

Very Hartnell/Troughton-esque, I like the fact that they have gone old school with the costume this time.

Matt Smith's look reminds me of Indiana Jones as the teacher. Here's John Barrowman playing "the Doctor" in My Family. Coincidence?

This series is being referred as Series One. This will be the third Series One after Hartnell and Eccleston.

Cue some throwaway reference along the lines of "I wondered where you'd got to" and voila - a whole new range of merchandise.

Why not. With the Time War and Gallifry no longer existing/never existed anything could happen. Maybe it's a degeneration rather than a regeneration.

Re: Dr Who 2010

Just noticed Karen Gillan in Ch4's The Kevin Bishop Show (fast paced sketch show parodying TV shows/films/adverts, second series started on Friday, I've never caught it before)

I thought she was incredibly stunning and seemed quite versatile and rather good for what was quite a patchy sketch show
- so she'll be the first ever attractive colour TV era redhead companion, who can also act, and doesn't claim to be a "comedian"

The Streets - Mike Skinner has revealed via Twitter he has landed a part in the new series of Doctor Who. A post on Twitter read: "You wouldn't believe the week I've had. I can't talk about it but let's just say I got a part in 'Doctor Who'."

Conspiracists may note that the Tweet has since been withdrawn with the comment: "and just like that. the tweet is deleted."

New Matt Smith era logo is to be unveiled 8am tomorrow @ bbc.co.uk/doctorwho

- BBC - Doctor Who - New Logo - Coming Soon

I wonder if we'll also get the new opening titles and theme tune when ready?
- is Murray Gold still involved, and hasn't Moffat already said the the Doctor's face is set to return to the titles?

We'll have a new Doctor, Tardis and logo. I think there's a very good chance we'll get a new theme/arrangement and opening titles.

Sorry Bri, I phrased that badly - I meant I wonder if we'll get an official advance preview, just as we'll get with the logo tomorrow

David Arnold could be a good successor to Gold, has already done the Who theme for Big Finish, and has a great electronic/orchestral soundtrack pedigree, though may be too expensive and busy (unless he wants to do it), since he's the fairly well established Bond composer of the last decade. Or Gold's no. 2 and Torchwood composer Ben Foster could get a promotion, unless Moffat wants to clear the decks. Could also get Mark Ayres to return, since he's still involved with classic Who with the 'restoration team'.

bit strange looking, but then again the current logo is just the name in arial inside a black taxi light and doesn't particularly grab you on its own when not viewed in the context of the opening titles

it is growing on me; I never warmed to McCoy's logo, or his opening titles with his silver face and the wink

That's what I thought. The pics are almost certainly from the first episode. It squashes any ideas that Smith's reign is to be a total reboot. I can't wait to see the new Tardis interior. They'll have a hard job beating the present one or the McGann version.

All the best
Bri
