Twin Peaks

Hi

Just ordered the Gold Box from Amazon, been waiting to pick this up for a while now and hoping the price would change but it never has so just decided to go for it. I also bought the film aswell, Fire Walk with Me (which I know you should only watch after you have seen the full series).

What are peoples opinions of it? What can I expect? I'm a big fan of David Lynch which is the main reason for the buy, but it also sounds like a fantastic eerie/mysterious show aswell.

Also, when I get addicted to TV shows I tend to just blast through them in a few days, is Twin Peaks something I should watch gradually, like one or two episodes a day?

Please keep the spoilers out though, no plot details or anything like that.

Memories of the Log Lady come flooding back.....It's certainly one of the best TV series I recall ever seeing on TV and at the time it was unmissable. Always the talk of the office the next day with everybody putting their own spin on it. Being a David Lynch fan you won't be dissapointed.

I would take your time watching it as there is a lot to take in and I somehow think it paid to stew on each episode. It was made as a TV series so maybe that's the way he intended it to be watched.

You raising this makes me think it's time to replace my treasured VHS copies with a Blu Ray version, if it's out that is. Off to check amazon now.

The soundtrack album is excellent as well. Twin Peaks by Angelo Badalamenti

I bought the Gold boxset a couple of years ago, an excellent purchase being a fan of the series from it's original broadcast on BBC2, even the mid-series dip in form didn't seem as bad as I remembered.
The soundtrack is truly a work of genius

If you're a Lynch fan in general then you should love this. I bought it all on LaserDisc including the film and I rebought the first series on DVD. The first one is a masterpiece of horror and homour. The second lost it's way at times but is still a must watch. I wasn't too keen on the film though.

Overall I think you'll really enjoy. I certainly hope so.

The main guy in the video looks quite a bit like Miguel Ferrer/Albert from Twin Peaks.

Does a bit ... however the late Frank Silva (Bob) is on another video of theirs, Only (first track and preceding single from same album, Sound of White Noise)
- towards the end being very Bob-like ... well he was only ever an accidental actor, inadvertently appearing in a mirror during the pilot, a "happy accident" for Lynch

You have made an excellent choice !

As the plot is on-going (several plots running at the same time, not just Lauras Palmer) I'd watch a few in a row, though there are summaries at the beginning of each episode (which you'll need !).

It's fair to say that after the Laura Palmer's storyline is resolved, the show does flounder a bit, but as brian s has said, it does pick up after a couple of episodes...........

Hi,

I agree with most of the views given so far. In fact, it was one of the first truly intelligent dramas that the US gave TV viewers: a show that was both intelligent, sophisticated, and had a dark sense of humour, along with twisting (and twisted) storylines. It was an adult show, for adults! In some respects, it led the way for shows like "Murder One", "24" and "Lost", as well as "Battlestar Galactica", "Dexter", "The Wire", etc.

It also led the way for film actors to make their way onto the small screen, without diminishing their profession of work, nor the quality of material itself.

That was Bob in tour first post too? I'd never have recogized him.

Love the soundtracks as well. Also the Julee Cruise album "Floating into the Night" which was written by Lynch(lyrics) and Badalamenti(music). She also sings the Twin Peaks title track and appears as a cabaret singer in the show.

Noope, sorry for the confusion, Bob/Silva was only in the second video ... his only other non-crew acting role apart from Twin Peaks

Btw, I thought the second season actually getting rather good and the finale was superb apart from a certain continuity error which I thought was rather bad

OP (and others who've not watched it all) -- don't highlight this spoiler text regarding that ...
Doc Hayward (Donna's dad; incidentally played by Warren Frost, father of Twin Peaks co-creator/writer Mark) attacks and kills/seriously injures Benjamin Horne (Audrey's dad and Donna's biological dad), then shortly after appears at the end of the episode treating the 'bad' Agent Cooper (Bob) - so no aftermath to his earlier actions

Another thing Bri ... were you aware of this Who connection?:

Dana Ashbrook who played Bobby Briggs is the brother of Daphne Ashbrook who played Dr Grace Holloway (in the 1996 TVM)

Whoa, I seriously have been trying to find that advert for ages now, I vaguely remember it from when I was growing up (I was only 5 at the time it was on TV) and I thought I was making the whole advert up in my head

, as I always remembered it being set in Liverpool and it playing 'Ferry across the Mersey' at the end and John Pertwee appearing, and then thinking to myself, since when would an advert like this exist?

Btw, is it a reference to Twin Peaks? If so, even cooler still. And that music at the beginning and the end is really creepy, I always remembered this particular advert for having a weird tune aswell.

Blimey d3moliti0n - so you were probably born after Twin Peaks first aired?

(Original US run April 8, 1990 – June 10, 1991 ... I remember watching it on BBC2 in autumn 1990, when I'd just started at university)

I remember reading about that but the story surfaced in April as I recall. Duchovny was brilliant in Twin Peaks and I'm not exactly a big fan of his.

April this year? I remember reading about it in some sci-fi mag like Starburst during one of my regular Forbidden Planet browsing sessions of the 90s.

Love Twin Peaks

such a great show and what a relief when season 2 "finally" came out on DVD in the US..........long wait over season one.

I was just searching for a bit more info on the show in Google and was reading the small bit of information that is on the Google links (under the website name) for the Wikipedia page and it has given away the ending.

Gone and spoilt it all now.

It wasn't much, basically if you Google search 'Twin Peak's then find the Wikipedia link, just the bit of info under the link, I only read a bit of the sentence then closed the page, haha. I didn't want to read anymore.

Checkout my last few posts on this thread, I'm now wondering if I have gone and spoiled the ending or something significant in the plot due to Wikipedia being crap and randomly showing like half of the show description under the Google link, which seems to have changed now. I read something about a person called 'Leo' in the finale or something along those lines.

Which means if this is true, as soon as I see this person I'm going to know he has something to do with the ending, which sucks.

Don't worry in Twin Peaks nothing is as it seems.

You haven't strayed upon anything that will ruin it for you, just stay away from anything on the web mentioning Twin Peaks !
