CSI Season Confusion

I started watching the new season of CSI LV with the guy from 'The Matrix' all was going well - channel 5..... then suddenly my serious link swapped or something happened and Grissam is now back in them and I'm back to the start of the previous season.

Anyone got any ideas whats going on? Am I losing the plot or what?

The season finished and they are now repeating an earlier one

You watched season 9 and it finished and now they are repeating season 8.

Easy enough to get confused, the finale of season 9 was just a bog-standard episode, most un-finale like.

I haven't seen season 8 or 9 yet (waiting for DVD) but I prefer not to go OTT with the final episode. I hate cliffhangers, so I prefer not to have them and then in case of cancellation, there is no open ending that won't get resolved. Any true CSI fan (or any other series) will still be ready to watch the next season even with a standard episode ending.
