The Philanthropist (US + Spoilers)

Enjoyable first couple off episodes. Some great scenery and people, good music, its far from perfect but an interesting and at times a touching series.

Primeval's Lucy Brown can be seen in episode 2 as Deborah Rogeaux, i think it was a french accent? she was doing.

Episode 1 - Pliot: Nigeria - 8.2/10

Episode 2 - Myanmar - 7.8/10

James Purefoy (Rome), Neve Campbell, Michael K. Williams (The Wire), Jesse L. Martin

Entrepreneur-turned-full-time philanthropist Bobby Sager is the inspiration behind The Philanthropist. A global adventure, where James Purefoy as Teddy Rist, co-founder of Maidstone Rist, is a renegade billionaire who uses his wealth, connections and power to help people in need, whilst fighting his own sorrow. He spends most off his time dodging bullets, and being chased in third-world countries and paying bribes to officials to get things done.

Re: The Philanthropist (US + Spoilers)

I like Purefoy but find the stories a bit weak in this, hopefully they'll beef up the writing.

Re: The Philanthropist (US + Spoilers)

Neve Campbell and moustache still playing the same annoying character they always play

Don't understand why Jesse L. Martin isn't credited in the opening titles but as special guest star afterwards

Re: The Philanthropist (US + Spoilers)

I'm enjoying this series purely on the performance of James Purefoy who is literally carrying a rather uninspired show.

Episode 6: San Diego - 7.9/10

When charitable donations in San Diego are fraudulently charged to Teddy Rist’s credit card, Teddy and Dax go on a manhunt. I liked the ending, that an painting has no real value, compared to all the people he had meet previously.

Re: The Philanthropist (US + Spoilers)

still don't understand Jesse L. Martin's "guest" status
- he's pretty much the main supporting castmember ... especially the Kashmir ep (with Neve Campbell and her tache doing sod all this ep ... it's not as if she's pregnant, or is she?)

final ep, "Haiti", next week
- don't expect NBC to renew it; the domestic audience haven't exactly been gathering in their masses for a show primarily set in non-US, non-Western locations (though mainly filmed in SA) ... a bit too out of their geographical/ethnic comfort zone

Re: The Philanthropist (US + Spoilers)

It was an interesting show but I don't have the desire to sit around in a circle holding hands and sing kumbiaya
