The bill - itv hd

Was not quite sure what to think of the new filmatic look. They have tried it before and I hated it, but as the episode got going I got used to it and thought the PQ was very clear and clean, even the dark scenes.

The fire at the end looked very low budget, but the quality of picture was great.

Overall, was quite pleased. Million times better than the usual ITV SD rubbish we have had.

Re: The bill - itv hd

Well there is a bit of confusion with regards to the Bill in HD as they claim as of last night the programme is broadcast in HD yet Jonathan Young the Bill's executive producer has said only the block of episodes from 20/07/09 onwards are in true HD. So I am wondering whether the current ones are actually upscaled as I didn't think the picture was anything special and I have seen other posts to confirm this as well.

Question Re: The bill - itv hd

I don't rate the new filmatic look at all, I haven't got freesat or the new Sky EPG so i can't watch ITV HD yet, the SD version looks awful and quite blurry, the frame rate looks very low, what gives it the 'soap opera' effect anyway!?...

Re: The bill - itv hd

Smithy and another of the cast was on This Morning today and they confirmed that:

(a) It switches to 9 pm from 23 July....Two episodes (Thursday and Friday that week, Thursdays only afterwards).

(b)It is in HD permanently from now on.

(c) The new theme tune is a version of the old one adapted if you listen carefully (I think thats what he said).

(d) The new grittier storylines will not aliennate current viewers (no swearing or sex) but the scripts are allowing them to tackle things they could never do pre 9 pm.

Re: The bill - itv hd

Just seen a clip of the first scene and the new credits. Looks ok and might catch this now.

The last time I saw The Bill was when it was 1/2 hour long and the opening (or was it the closing) credits were two policeman's feet walking along the street. I stopped watching when they started killing off a cast member every other week.

Is The Bill any good? Been going for 26 years apparently!

Re: The bill - itv hd

Ive not missed an episode for about 15 years (sad I know) and am from the old skool camp in regards to The Bill. Was expecting the new format to dissapoint after all the hype but thought it was excellent. Production was excellent (although a few sound issues here and there) and picture quality was excellent. Also loved the incidental music which I thought Id hate. It feels a totally different show yet its the same. Cant wait for part 2 tonight.
