Post Website age ratings 'an option'

Film-style age ratings could be applied to websites to protect children from harmful material, the culture secretary says.

Re: Website age ratings 'an option'

Would any sane person actually search for beheading clips?

Don't answer that,i'll probably get a load of "yes" posts.

Censoring the interweb,impossible!

Re: Website age ratings 'an option'

And who's going to go through every single page and the content of every single website to rate them?

Re: Website age ratings 'an option'

Oh, what a fantastic idea Why do politicians who don't understand these issues feel the need to comment? Similar to other areas of journalism I suppose!

Maybe we can have the British Board of Website Censors next, I'll submit my daily blog post to them so they can vet it for four-letter words, ball-gags and "imitable techniques", and I can pay them a couple of hundred pounds for the privelege of being able to post, great idea

Re: Website age ratings 'an option'

People who call for censorship of the world wide web seem to have their minds stuck in the last century (see the key phrase "world wide" in there). By who's standards of prudishness do we bowdlerize things?

I was quite perturbed to see that oppressive logo here this morning I have to admit; the BBFC in principle aren't on my list of most loved British institutions. Wouldn't it be better to use the standardised ICRA ratings?

Re: Website age ratings 'an option'

Impossible to implement on something that is live 24hrs. Their is no way to prove how old someone is.

If the Taliban were in power in Afghanistan ordinary people wouldn't have internet access except for the Cleric leaders to spread propaganda.

I personally hate censorship and see it as a breech of freedom of rights. (As long as you are an adult)

I remember the original Exodus movie - they cut out the bit when she comes down the stairs walking with her legs and arms but upside down. Big deal. Movies should get age ratings but never be cut as the director intended.

So the people who do the censoring - are they morally perfect? What makes them so special, they get to see the full movies.

100yrs ago, woman couldn't smoke in public and if they showed an ankle it just wouldn't be decent.

Rant over...

Re: Website age ratings 'an option'

This is a PG rated site, one small issue, the dvd covers are showing 18 rated pictures, for example, the pic of the woman with a razor blade stuck in her hand.

Re: Website age ratings 'an option'

When are we going to get the PG-13 rated cut of AVForums for American viewers? All this talk of SCART and 50hz is highly offensive to their God-given morality
