<p><img style="margin: 6px; float: left;" src="http://www.homecinemachoice.com/files/hcc_content/PDP-6090tease.jpg" title="Pioneer's current PDP-6090 reference screen" width="163" height="142" />Shock waves rippled through the high-end AV community when Pioneer, famed for the quality of its Kuro TVs, announced that it was closing its plasma factories and buying panels from rival Panasonic instead. </p>
<p>So would the brand’s current 9th generation models be the last to offer its trademark black levels and outstanding picture performance? <span class='read-more'><a href="http://www.homecinemachoice.com/features/pioneer+previews+Fuga+Kuro+tech">&nbsp;read&nbsp;m ore&nbsp;&raquo;</a></span></p>

Fuga, not as cool sounding as Kuro is it?

And the stuttering in the panning test didn't sound good for buyers of the Kuro.Considering the price ot the things.

I thought 1080p@24hz was supposed to eliminate judder, obviously not?

Very cool sounding tech though.

At first I was quite impressed by the depth this new type of picture processing gave to an image, but then the penny dropped. What this circuit can do is actually alter the vision and intent of a cinematographer, by changing the chosen focal plane of the composition. And it can do it with an accuracy that’s almost frightening.

When it was pointed out that this could potentially change the artistic vision of a feature film, the development team admitted that they were not sure yet how to utilise the feature.
License it out to indie filmmakers who would kill for such a feature (if done properly)

I wonder sometimes if people mistake judder for low update rate. Judder normally occurs when successive frames are refreshed at a different rate, e.g. 3-2 inverse telecine, where 1 frame is displayed three times; the next twice; the next three times, etc. At 24Hz update rates (in the case of the Pioneers), each frame is displayed three times. But since 24Hz is a relatively low update rate, pans can result in the image appearing to change incrementally in "steps" (for lack of a better word!).
