Post Lord of the Rings trilogy most requested films on Blu-ray

The Lord Of The Rings trilogy are the movies most film fans want to see released in high definition, according to a survey conducted by TDK. Peter Jackson’s epic beat out a list of Oscar winning classics, including Ben Hur and Casablanca.

The Rings trilogy has had HD outings already on Sky and C4HD, but has yet to be released on Blu-ray. read more »

Me too! Would that be the directors cut or remastered cut or original cut or new original cut with odd remastered clips

Infact... why doesn't GL just release them all individually... then as boxsets.. then as total limited boxsets inc. poster!

Re: Lord of the Rings trilogy most requested films on Blu-ray

Hmmm I'm not too sure that they could squeeze any more out of the original Star Wars Trilogy - the THX remastered editions were pretty stunning for movies that were over 25 years old

LOTR however could make some significant leaps with a Blu Ray transfer

Re: Lord of the Rings trilogy most requested films on Blu-ray

I think we'll be waiting until 2010. The blu-ray release will then feed off the publicity drive for The Hobbit.

Personally, I'm waiting for Finding Nemo!

Is that how long it will take for the Hobbit to come out?

Re: Lord of the Rings trilogy most requested films on Blu-ray

You would think they'd take advantage of the format just now, technology is moving fast these days and downloads could force Bluray under if the quality and price of the download is right.

Re: Lord of the Rings trilogy most requested films on Blu-ray

I cant see bluray quality hitting our 'download shores' for a long time yet. DTS master being c18Mb/p/s exc. the film. Although having said that compression algorithms are getting very good

I think some form or storage device remaining for the audio/videophile

Now, now! I'm 31 and Casablanca is one of my favourite films - it's an all-time classic of film storytelling, and looks brilliant to boot.

Mind you, I don't have to worry, because I've got the HD DVD of Casablanca already - and I can vouch for how stunning it looks in hidef.

I'm not surprised at the list, to be honest - Star Wars has been released so many times, in so many ways, that it's hardly shocking it didn't make it into the top 5. I reckon it would probably be in the top ten, though.

Anyway I, too, would love a HD version of Gladiator, and LOTR is probably what I would like to see most of all on Blu-Ray right now. The extended editions on one disc, for example, would be a huge bonus. Not that bothered about Ben Hur, but it's a stone cold classic and visually exciting to boot. Imagine the chariot race in 1080p with DTS-MA, for example!

The only real "surprise" on that list is Rocky...it's not that visually striking (IMO), so I'm not sure how much BR would "improve" it. Besides, if I'm not mistaken, isn't it already on Blu-Ray? Or is it just Rocky Balboa that's on BR?

When they say outing already in HD on C4 is that correct? It certainly wasn't HD last weekend!

Re: Lord of the Rings trilogy most requested films on Blu-ray

I'd only buy the extended editions! Sooo much better than the theatrical releases (which were also great!!)...it would have to be the EEs with full-on uncompressed, lossless sound.

Not too bothered about the extras as I don't think they can add anymore to the already huge amounts on the DVDs!

...others for the list would be Saving Private Ryan, Indy Trilogy, Star Wars OT....stuff that home cinema was invented for!!

It was on C4 last weekend mate , It was only alittle better than the Dvd version or SD , But on C4 HD it must have been around 720 , I wouldt say it was 1080p not a chance, But it was better than the Dvd from what i watched , But it should look even better in 1080p HD with all the Sound formats.

Re: Lord of the Rings trilogy most requested films on Blu-ray

Are you sure it was in hd, i ask as it wasnt flaged as such on the epg. Had a quick flick and it did look good but channel 4 hd can be very very good at times with sd upscaled content.

Re: Lord of the Rings trilogy most requested films on Blu-ray

In general, the reviews for this first film of the trilogy have been excellent. Unfortunately, while I think many things were beautifully done, can not endorse this movie as a whole. The visuals were absolutely gorgeous for the most part and the plot changes were for the most part adeptly handled but the characters simply do not hold at all true to Tolkien's words. These objections will not be shared by those not very familiar with the books. For them, I think this is an excellent movie (mostly for the visuals) but NOT faithful to Tolkien's characters.

Did you see the extended director's versions of the films? They flesh out the story and characters a lot better in my opinion.

You do however need a fair bit of stamina to watch all 3 in one day

Actually, scrap 2010 as the release date. Apparently the roadmap is 2009: pre-production, 2010: both movies filmed back to back, end of 2011: Hobbit released.

That's a long wait.

Suffice to say, I think LOTR on blu will be out before then.

It would have to be pretty impressive to beat the extended versions on DVD for quality
