Post Blu-ray makes 'format intro speed record' claims

The latest newsletter from the Blu-ray Disc Association suggests that now that the debilitating war with HD DVD is over, Blu-ray has spurted into life to a record-breaking extent. Apparently America's Home Media Magazine has reported that Blu-ray sales have gone from accounting to just 2-3% of film disc sales...

All good news for the new format, when the prices of discs come down or near to DVD, maybe it will take off in the UK.

I think we've also got a lot of HD DVD owners (many of whom are dual format) that are just not buying Blu discs right now because they're scooping up bargains in the HD DVD fire sales. When they're over and profile 2.0 players become more available I think we'll see another hike in Blu disc sales - BUT the prices MUST also come down. Having paid £6-8 during the fire sales I'm feeling that a tenner a disc is way too expensive now

I agree with Canary Jones. I don't want a PS3, but I do want a blu-ray profile 2.0 player. But they need to be available and they need to be reasonably priced. I refuse to pay disgusting amounts of money for the hardware and then more for discs. I don't think it's going to be anytime soon...
