I think that price tag says a lot about the present viability of HD movie downloads as a replacement for packaged media. Until we get to a stage where HD movies can be streamed on demand, the costs involved in downloading and storing them are simply too high. Even that 9TB behemoth would only be capable of storing 180 50GB Blu-ray discs.

What we need is a software only choice; I for one, could then build my own storage server without paying their margin for hardware.

There's a slight caveat to their server: -

*HDDVD / Blu-Ray loader only compatable with unencrypted discs

Aren't all Blu Ray/HD DVD movies encrypted? They also seem to be running VMC/My Movies as a front end which I guess also means using PowerDVD or Arcsoft for playback of HD-DVD and Blu Ray (via .ISO files and Demon Tools)?

Where is the £12,500 price tag? Seems a little steep bearing in mind you can pick up 1TB drives for £130...

More to the point you will be able to buy a Kaleidescape system with Bluray on board for the same money, and it will all be legal to copy encrypted BDs are well as DVD now.

I would love a Juke box that plays all formats, a great big Wurlitzer type thing with all the lights, how cool would that be. Press G74 and Batman Begins on HD-DVD appears on screen, or T35 for Blade Runner on Blu Ray. B714 will bring you Pink Floyd and Dark Side of the Moon on cd. For that I would pay top dollar...

By the way does anyone know where all the juke boxes have gone???
