Post Price crash predicted for Sony Blu-ray players

The price of a Sony Blu-ray player will hit 200 dollars by 2009. That’s the view of a man who should know. Sony Electronics US president Stan Glasgow made the prediction during the company’s recent press briefing. Players are expected to close out in 2008 at around 299 dollars. "We need to explain the additional feature sets, PIP, BD live and other features.”

Do these features benefit anyone other than enthusiasts, no... So why not cut out all these features and produce good players at good affordable prices now for both players and discs.. It's just as easy to go to a movie website if you need to know more about how the movie was made, deleted scenes etc... It seems to me that they are trying to use these extra features to justify high prices for what is yet an unfinished product...

99.99% of Hollywood films that aren't worth buying because they aren't worth seeing more than once. How about Sony cuts all the gizmos from its players and adds an "Improve the Movie" button. High Def tat is still tat.

Because if they cut out the features that were standard on HD DVD then it wouldn't look very good in the aftermath of a format war. HD DVD managed to get cheap players on the market with PiP, internet connectivity and the like so there's no reason why Blu-ray won't be able to do the same in the near future.

I agree, I've only ever bought movies on DVD that I love, know I will watch more than once and cost less than a fiver. Most of these are not movies produced in the last few years. Until Blu-ray discs are available that meet the same critieria AND have a much better transfer than DVD, you can count me out.

And we are in the business of being perceptive and intelligent consumers, which is why the whole HD thing is a world-wide runaway success.

Good players with very little features would be considered "high-end", and very expensive...

Cheers
