Post HD DVD camp comes out fighting - and cuts hardware prices even more

Instead of cutting the price of players (of course its welcome), why don't they spend a few million on their marketing and point of sale marketing. It is truly dreadful. In the past 2 days Ive travelled between London, Dusseldorf and Cologne and the DVD spaces in the stores in 90 (yes 90!) percent bluray, with a couple of titles of HD DVD in the corner. No advertising nothing. A disgrace!

One definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. I can see the marketing handbook for all the HD-DVD forum now - Page one - discount the hardware, page two - discount the hardware.

Surely the could come up with something better than that?

Re: HD DVD camp comes out fighting - and cuts hardware prices even more

Or another option is end sd270 and 370 and just have hd dvd's in there place and make a good point of HD DVD and also an upscaling player. And then the market would be flooded with HD DVD players all selling about £39.99 and £79.99 or whatever 270 and 370 are mean't to RRP at.

I know they would loose alot of money but it be gained later on. And sell a whole load by the bucket load and some advertising/POS wouldn't go a miss. And with shop by any 32" TOSH tv get a HD DVD player.

I think the only way to come back is to flood the market with ultra cheap HD DVD players. Or do a sony with the betamax and by a film studio. Eg Universal for Tosh, so there will always be a supporting studio on HD DVD.

But thats my 2 cents.

The problem is not the cheapness of the HD-DVD players.
If there are no movies being released on that format (only 1 company) then sadly everyone is gonna buy BluRay.

Actually it's two main studios at present.

Universal and Paramount/Dreamworks.

Also the HD DVD format now has the support of 75% of European independent film studios. These include 2 Entertain Video, Ascot Elite, Concorde Video, DeA Planeta, DVD International, EMS, Filmax, Galileo, Highlight, Imagion, Monolith Films, Moviemax, Nixbu, Optimum, Pathé, Pinnacle Vision, SHV, SPI and Studio Canal.
