Post Paramount and Universal confirm support for HD DVD

Universal and Paramount are not walking away from HD DVD just yet. Despite conflicting reports in the aftermath of Warner’s decision to back Blu-ray only, Paramount maintains it has no plans on ditching HD DVD anytime soon, and Universal’s Ken Graffeo says his studio is also holding firm. 'However it does seem that Universal’s exclusivity deal with HD DVD is now over.'

Continuing to support a format is very different from staying exclusive.

If Universal go back to releasing on both formats then there really is only one choice of hd player - Blu Ray

Universal have never released on Blu-ray - they have always been HD DVD exclusive.

Re: Paramount and Universal confirm support for HD DVD

Universal and Paramount have not announced any Blu-Ray titles either, HD-DVD will still be here next year I guarantee it. The market is still miniscule, DVD will dominate for the time being. My advice to anybody is stop sitting on the fence and buy into High Definition DVD be it either Blue, Red or both! Personally my viewing is swayed to about 70% High Definition DVD's a week (about 3). Being able to rent High Definition DVD's so early on in the products life cyle is a big plus over what happened with DVD when that first came out.

Re: Paramount and Universal confirm support for HD DVD

For those who are into HTPC, most modern HTPCs can support hi-def discs of either flavour...

Whilst HTPC or media boxes (computers) are not for every one, once youahve a well spec'ed PC the cost of adding HD drives is relatively small compared to investing in both a Blu-Ray and a seperate HD-DVD player
