Post Stripped down PS3 to invade US

Sony will launch its stripped down PlayStation 3 into the American market on November 2, priced at 399 dollars. The model, which has a 40GB drive, no backwards compatibility with PS2 games (although PSOne games play) and no support for Super Audio CD, is expected to accelerate the competition with Nintendo and Microsoft. What does it mean to have no support for super audio. What will I lose if i get this model?

Thanks for the help.

Compared to the 'full fat' 60GB model:
You'll lose 2 USB ports, although it'll still have 2.
SACD won't be supported so, you won't be able to play SACD's on it.
You won't be able to play PS2 games on it as, that support function has been removed too.
And, you'll only get a 40GB hard drive as opposed to a 60GB drive on the 'full fat' model.

If you're after a PS3 now, get the 'full fat' 60GB version. The current deals for them (that started today) offer much more value for money than any of the 40GB model deals.
For example, the average 60GB model deal includes 2 games and an extra official controller for £350 or less. Where as the 40GB model on it's own or, with one game is £299.

If you have a Virgin credit card or work for Virgin and have a 'tribe' card, you can get the above 60GB deal for around £305.

Re: Stripped down PS3 to invade US

There are rumours that the new 40gb model has the improved lower power consumption cooler running 65nm core although these are totally unconfirmed atm although a fellow forum member has suggested it is true here

If it is then in theory it should run cooler hence the fan won't need to work so hard so the machine will stay quieter which would be a consideration if using it for watching films

As for sacd, if you don't already use them or know what they are the likelyhood is that you definitely won't miss this feature
