The Hollywood major has been forced to apologise for including a PowerPoint slide during a presentation at Universal Studios Japan, intimating that Spielberg’s hits, including E.T., Jaws and Jurassic Park, would be launched in the format. Re: Spielberg says No to HD DVD

Due respect to Spielberg but what exactly has he got against HD DVD?

I've googled a bit but can't find a direct quote or official article, anyone got any links?

Re: Spielberg says No to HD DVD

tbh looks to me like he prefers blu-ray but would rather not release on either format, i noticed he didnt specifically come out to say "Nope hd-dvd is rubbish, i will be releasing titles A, B and C ONLY on blu-ray this year"

Re: Spielberg says No to HD DVD

Might be reading between the lines but Close Encounters is the ONLY film getting a HD release. Maybe he's waiting to see if mainstreem HD takes off or if, as some analysts are now saying, dies a quick death.

Why do I have a mental picture of Blu-Ray and HD-DVD fighting over the last deckchair on the Titanic ?

Re: Spielberg says No to HD DVD

It does seem with every passing day that we're witnessing the sagas of Quadrophonics, cassette vs. cartridge, or Betamax vs. VHS all over again, and as ever it looks like the consumer is going to be the loser in the end.

Mind you there is an even more efficient storage format for optical discs lurking in the wings already which completely eclipses the storage abiltiy of HD-DVD or Blu-ray!!

I think the dual formnat players that are beginning to appear should eventally put an end to the dispute - then the comsumer wins.

The one thing missing from all this is a direct quote from ' The Great One '
If he , uniquely , has solved the 'which format is best' question , I wish he'd share it with us all . This is all Hollywood politics shoyte and I would love if Universal called his bluff and put out Jaws or Schindler's List in HD

I don't think Universal would go down that road .I seem to remember a small film called "Star Wars' back in the 70's where Hollywood tried to tell a young up and coming director called George what he could and shouldn't do with his long space saga.So that young man bulit his own studios in his backyard and told his mate Steve to come over and play and let the rest of them go and get knotted.Your talking about the richest men in Holly wood and their that way because they see through the cr....p and get things done.

Makes sense really.

Hold Release of your back catalogue on HD when sale of the devices capable of playing them reaches its peak.
