More like the government get richer from the auction, they were never going to give this away for free when they could make a pretty packet on it.

Re: Ofcom not persuaded by the case for Freeview HD

Can OFCOM please answer this question:

Do they *seriously* expect people to be watching SD Digital TV as it currently stands for the next, what, 20+ years?

So, what does everyone think is going to happen next? Are OFCOM basically nailing the coffin shut for ground-based transmissions in the UK? Will we all be watching BBC/ITV "Freesat" in the future, and rely on non-terrestrial methods like some continental European countries?

The Government won't get richer because any money they make will just go into the bottomless spending black hole created by the NHS, Social security, Deffence etc. It is the telecoms company shareholders who will ultimately benefit by them charging an arm and a leg for new services provided using what is OUR bandwidth.
