So does this mean that there may be an ITV HD on sky as well next year?

Sounds like extremely good news to me just the sort of news we all need in my opinion

Re: BBC and ITV get green light for new freeview HD satellite service

For me, this is a much more important development than hd over terrestrial freeview.

At last someone will be able to offer a comprehensive service that is truely capable of delivering an alternative to sky.

For people like myself who live in areas where freeview reception is not good there has only been one choice which is sky, especially if you wanted a pvr such as sky+

Sky will have to respond to this in some way as I am sure there are many people who would swap back to a free service if it offered all the functionality of sky but with just the free to view channels.

Re: BBC and ITV get green light for new freeview HD satellite service

I took part in the survey referenced in this link,it was pointed mostly at HD transmissions ,talking about having a recorder for HD progrmmes over night for you to playback at your leisure,

do you think we will need a 2nd decoder alongside sky hd or will they put the programmes on all platforms?
