Not a suprise really, it's not a quality thing it is a money thing.
Those who can afford to buy Blu-ray can afford to buy loads of films with it.

Normal people with normal expenditure will tend to buy a limited number of films a month - and due to the cost of the players the HD-DVD does seem a more financial beneficial option.

Availability of the films themselves is also an issue. Yes fine, go online and order them - but until more stockists in the high street have a good range of titles there really is no real comparrison. Speaking to my local Blockbuster store, they are totally non-committal on which way they are going to go with this. High street wise there is only ASDA which stock at realistic prices but they have few titles available.

Finally, the PS3 is released so this will open up the market more for Blu-ray, HD-DVD players are only available in the XBOX360 add on or online versions - again high street stockists are poor to catch on.......
