Post PS3 sales slow but PS2 accelerates

Retail number-cruncher NPD has revealed that the PlayStation 3 continue to lag behind the Xbox 360 (199,000 units) and Wii (259,000 units) in the trend-setting US market with monthly sales of 130,000 units, but it’s far from bad news for Sony. The venerable (and profitable) PS2 is still on a charge, selling more than all [...]

Re: PS3 sales slow but PS2 accelerates

Interesting, and I have noticed I am buying more PS2 games than I do for my 360. But the PS2 does have a greater choice at the moment

Re: PS3 sales slow but PS2 accelerates

This also mirrors my experience.

I had postponed replacing my dead ps2 since Oct/Nov '06 in anticipation of the ps3. When I learned of the handicapped backwards compatibility I grabbed myself a refurbished ps2 for £60 and, after resentfully swearing in a fit of pique that I would never buy one as a consequence, abandoned my principles and have just ordered a Japanese ps3 for under for under £300 as a cheapish Region A BD player.

That it can play ps3 games is a bonus, but not anything I pined for just yet. I'm sure must-have games will come but, to me right now, the present offerings seem to be more of the same with prettier graphics.

Like dso, my kids and I are also getting more play out of the ps2 than the 360 or, in our case, even the Wii.

Those numbers were food for thought. Thanks for posting them.
