I knew I should have waited for an updated version of the 360 - phasing out the 20gig HD only screws the people who bought the 1st generation 360 and forces them to buy a 120gig HD - out of order I think but it happens all the time

it's not really screwing people over, it's progress. they could have put a bigger drive in the first place, but then the price would have been higher, and it cost enough in the first place. the xbox will have been out for about a year and a half before the updated model, so those at the start would have had a good use out of it, and not everyone will need a bigger HD. can't you just take the 20gig HD out and upgrade it yourself?

personally i think it's a shame it doesn't include the HD drive. i'm sure eventually they will include it, but that'll maybe be another year away now. hopefully it'll be dual HD/blu ray if thats the case

What about the fan noise? Any info on whether this will be improved?

The fans aren't really the problem IMO. Its more the DVD drive that the noise comes from (although newer drives seem to be better)

I wish this were true, but its not. Fan noise is a significant issue when using the 360 as either a DVD player or a media centre extender.

Re: Black Xbox 360 officially confirmed for April

From the rumours i've heard, the 'elite' version will be a limited run.. I'm skeptical about diving in to try and get one if that is the case, as I won't know whether the dvd + fan noise will have been resolved, or whether the overheating issues are solved.

As above, the fan noise drives me NUTS, the optical drive just adds to the pain.
