Sony dumps Superbit DVD line

Post Sony dumps Superbit DVD line

Sony has dumped its high-bitrate Superbit line of premium DVD releases. The Studio says it now wants to concentrate on Blu-ray high definition products. The decision to limit the life of the brand was apparently made back in 2001: “With regular Blu-ray releases there is no room in the market for a standard definition higher-quality [...]

Yes that's all fine, but is there room for properly encoded SD-DVDs rather than the mixed bag one is putting up with now. I've lost track of how many double layered DVDs are encoded to barely fill half the available space... or is it just done to make HD-DVD and Blue Ray look good?

Disappointing news. I guess we just have to rely on AV Play to sort the wheat from the chaff in terms of DVD quality
