Re: HD DVD rips challenge AACS copy protection system

the trouble is, as long as companies 'mess around' with a film that someone has *legally* bought, there will still be a 'revenue stream' ...
things that force people to do it....
- big, un-skippable, banners in front of the movie... this gets very boring after the 10th play...
- massive price differences, compared even to france!!!!
- reduced content in the UK release - USA usually has twice the 'extras' or more... why does a reduction in content increase the price???

Because we in the UK are stupid enough to pay the prices - like everything else really.

Re: HD DVD rips challenge AACS copy protection system

Like CDs and DVDs , there will always be copy circumvention: Given the investment of the "owners" it is no doubt theft by another name.

I like great sounding CDs, Great PQ/Audio from DVDs and would expect the same for HD material. Buying into great kit means I would hardly be looking to play poor quality pirated stuff: Kind of defeats the purpose. Even now I still get accosted by People hawking Pirated DVDs in Car parks etc

However, CDs skip, and I dont want to buy one for the car as well as one for the Home System. Similarly I want to keep kids grubby fingers from rendering DVDs unwatchable. The industry simply doesn't want them to be backed up for fear of widespread piracy

Like many who actually buy these products , I have less sympathy for the manufacturers who ( Like Bill Gates , Sony and co ) Seem to treat legit purchasers as potential pirates at all points ( Try getting a new activation code for windows )

Also trying to milk us dry in the name of new technology with silly prices instead of aiming to recoup by nos is a failing strategy they needs to know

Re: HD DVD rips challenge AACS copy protection system

yes, true, true.... It seems there is no-one who is daring enough to reduce prices, to get people buying again... that is why the pirates survive... I am sure if some daring company produces a new release at a very low price, they will sell millions - anyone will pefer the cheapest, original!

so come on, give us the same respect as the rest of the world!!

- but at least, there is *some* good news...
College students download stuff for free shock

For Real, DRM no cure for music biz blues

oh, and the 'second shoe' has fallen...

now if they put all that money into reducing prices.... hmmmmm..
