Denon spokesman Rob Follis says “It’s my opinion that the HD-Disc launch is a disaster, the early machines are dogs and the content is rubbish. Just Say No to dodgy HD formats and buy a serious DVD player instead!”
The fact we have a format war in the high def disc market is not ideal but Mr Follis is way off with his comments. The amount of content increases daily and the vast amount (at least on the HD DVD side) offers superb quality - the best you can get from any source to date.

And the machines are far from 'dogs': I have both the Samsung BDP1000 (BluRay) and the Toshiba XA1 (HD DVD) and they are both solid machines. Indeed the XA1 outperforms my Denon 3910 for SD DVD playback.

Denon aim many of the products at AV enthusiasts - many want the best pciture/audio quality - and that is not achieved by sticking with standard def discs and upscaling them.
