The point about the BBC HD logo is that, whereas only a small percentage of their viewers for standard definition broadcasts are using screens that can be adversely affected by long term static images, this percentage increases dramatically for the hd services as plasma screens make up a fair proportion of the televisions being used by people who recieve hd broadcasts.

The arguement that you need to be able to quickly determine what channel you are watching is also a nonesense as the majority of people recieving bbchd are doing so through sky and telewest and you can tell what channel you are on by pressing one button.

There are not exactly a huge number of hd channels out there either so its hard to believe someone who is watching bbchd isnt already aware of the fact without an on screen graphic to remind them.

Given the very nature of thee bbchd channel and its supposed 'test channel' status its feedback like this that they should be taking notice of.

Well said, I totally agree. It has been well known for a number of years the problems related to OSG and the burn or retension issues with panels. The broadcasters seem to be uninterested in doing anything about it. I believe there are a number of ways to eleviate, if not irradicate these problems. Firstly make all logos at least 50% transparent. Secondly, at regular interals move the logo to each corner of the screen, say every 5minutes or so.
Thirdly, why cant the logo be moverd by around 1cm or so within the corner of the screen, at an interval of every minute.

That statement about consumer navigation is the stock excuse used by all the broadcasters who use DOGs. It is an excuse and not a reason.

The true reason, which they will never publicly announce, is to prevent people from making an unblemished recording of the material.

what i want to know is, as you can normally tell what channel you are watching just by the content, wouldnt it be more important to have a DOG on screen when the adverts are on? ..... oh id love to see what happened if they tried that.

we know the reason for the DOG, its copy protection, and the only programs that dont have them are the ones no one wants to copy anyway! e.g EastEnders

tho i do have one exception to the rule, a DOG can be handy if your watching an unfamiliar channel. but i very much doubt any BBC channel is unfamiliar

Sky Movies got it right afterall, no DOGs and premium content
