It would be shame if Pioneer stopped making DVD recorders as they have tended to be very good. Having bought Pioneer for many years I was forced to buy a Panasonic DVD/HDD recorder as I wanted integrated Freeview and component outputs. Pioneer never released the right product for me so I went elsewhere. Perhaps the poor product line, in some way, accounted for them selling fewer DVD/HDD recorders.

It would appear that they have had great success with their high end DVD players, where the profit margin is greater and customers are prepared to shop online and from hi-fi shops and know what they want. Pioneer have never had a great presence on the high street, intentional or not, and thus will never shift in bulk, to the masses like LG, Samsung and the cheap Chinese players in supermarkets.

It maybe the right decision to focus or new high end technology rather than the bargain basement, cut throat end of the market.

They will be sadly missied if it is true.
