one thing weighing heavily on my decision though after i contacted Yamaha

Me
Enquiry: I understand that the RX-V4600 has HDMI switching - can you please
confirm that all inputs can be upconverted to HDMI - e.g. component
video.... thanks

Yahama
Sorry, wont do this - HDMI is a separate switched circuit only with no up
or down converting - there may be an amp which up converts to HDMI later
this year - nothing confirmed as yet. Currently the DSPZ9 will convert any
signal to 1080i or 720p using DCDi scaling and output this as High Def
component.

Me
thanks for the reply but I'm not sure you have answered my question -

I think what you are saying is that a standard-def compontent input will
not
be upscaled to 720p/1080i internally and sent out via HDMI...

what I am asking is will the RX-V4600 "pass through" a signal input via the
component inputs (be that 576i, 720p, 1080i) - and output that via a single
cable to my display (in this case via the HDMI outut)....????

The RXV 4600 has no scaling ability. If you input a 720p component signal,
it will come out as 720p. If you input a 576i signal, it comes out as
576i. The 4600 will perform video up conversion from composite to S video
and to component but this will not scale the resolution - only allow a
better type of connection to be used. The HDMI part of the 4600 is
totally independent of any video conversion and nothing converts to or from
this section. Again, no scaling of the signal occurs. So no, if you input
a signal as component it will not come out as HDMI.

The only amp in our range which can scale a video signal is the DSPZ9,
which uses component as its HD output.
