Post Denon AVR-5805 Multifunction A/V Receiver Review

It's not often that a manufacturer makes a product under the guise of a certain category that absolutely shatters...

As an A1SE (upgraded to A1SR spec) owner, and someone who knows his AV onions, I think this machine will not appeal because it is too big, too expensive, too complicated and in need of firmware upgrades already (needing to be shipped back to Denon as before??) !

Denon should have simply added HDMI socketry and video upscaling to the A1SRX at a lower price.

What concerns me even more is that the A11 range has been creeping up in price to meet the previous price point of the flagship A1. The new A11SRXV is going to be £2500, but is no way a direct replacement for the previous A1SRX..

So if I want to replace my A1SE (for DPLIIx and HDMI) I have to go down market or pay £4000 (on yer bike) for an oversized monster.

I'm going to wait and see what Yamaha's next offering will be.

You'd need a customised rack for that beast!

If you wait about 7 weeks the AVC-A11XV is going to be launched, with HDMI and DVI also the multi-point room EQ all for about £2500. It won't have the zones or the 16 channels of the A1XV put at lest its lighter and smaller!

.. and I don't think can be considered a replacement for the previous A1SRx
Its power supply is smaller and it is physically smaller too.

There just doesn't seem to be a direct replacement for the A1SRx, and that's why I'll be looking elsewhere next. Silly Denon!

Jules

Denon should be showing their new Processors at this years CEDIA show. One is based on the Pre-Amp section of the A1XV, not sure about the other (whether it's that Ultra High one that was shown a while back or a lower spec model). Might be worth waiting for.

As for the A1XV, I'd quite happily buy one as it means I could dump my existing Denon, Poweramp and Video Processor and replace them with one box.
