Many non-religious people feel that family life is suffering in the modern world that families are able to spend less time together, and that money is replacing more emotional and spiritual aspects of life.
In the UK we've had Sunday opening for quite sometime, but in the '80's the proposals were often defeated, not just by the Bishops in the Lords, but by an unlikely alliance in the Commons of traditionalists and union-backed MPs (particularly those backed by USDAW) who didn't want their members ending up being forced to work on Sundays. Ensuring the whole family can share a day off together is not necessarily a bad thing.
I don't agree with this particular protest, but for these reasons I'm not sure it's fair to say the protesters are 'delusional'.

The protests arn't about having a family day though is it? it's because they belive working on this day is a sin.
It would of course be lovely if we had a day when no one had to work and familys and friends could always spend it together but it's simply not possible. We need the fire brigade, the police and the health service, we need power, heating and water, how many people really want a family day that they spend in the dark, where there is no TV, no places to go and eat or get entertainment.
I'm quite happy to let people have their beliefs that arn't based on any logic or reason untill they start to try to force them onto other people, at that point I see no reason to not use words like nuts and delusion. You can't debate someones views logically when their views arn't based on logic.
We continue to have openings here on sunday influenced by religion and it's completely wrong.
