About the only truthful statement I've seen coming from a DSG employee in years.

pot kettle calling black the, rearrange into the correct order. The majority of DSG employees go from 'do you want fries with that' to 'do you want the extended three year warranty with that'.

Re: Dixons shoppers branded 'stupid'

just ask one of these 'smart' staff a slightly more technical question about something they are trying to sell, they will tell you they need to check in the manual

Re: Dixons shoppers branded 'stupid'

lol, have to say that is exactly how it is,

to be fare there are the od 1 - 2 people there that they know what they are talking about,

i used to work for dsg group along long time ago, and i was pritty clued up on my electronics as thats 1 of my hobbies - but people like, the top sellers ect all they ever do was read of the price ticket and chat poo and customers fall for it -

1 of there biggest trick is " i will chuck this in for you" when actually it comes part of it or part of the package

beware re prices aswell - if u ever wonder why the sales person has just given u a large discount when u just said ill buy it- its becuase the price has all ready come down on there system and they either have forgotten or havent changed the price ticket!
so he hasnt really given u a discount after all

ow i fotgot to point out aswell - if the sales person says ill give the extended warranty for free or less than half price - yep u guessed it - its becuase price on the system has gone down - but they havent changed the price ticket - so you think there givng u a discount, but in fact there not

Re: Dixons shoppers branded 'stupid'

While im sure they have come across alot of clueless customers, I have come across many clueless sale staff in my time.

"If you buy a larger monitor it will speed up your games!"

"The contrast ration is the number of colours the tv can display"

"60,000 is the native contrast ratio"

"It will upscale DVDs and make them look as good as bluray"

"I dont think it has a flux CPU capacitor, but I can go check for you"

You have to laugh when you ask them a question and they turn around and read whats on the labels then turn around and spout what they just read.

But to be fair, I have met some really good sales staff who know their stuff, just not often.

Re: Dixons shoppers branded 'stupid'

It's the brain dead people at the top of the company I blame.

I saw an advert recently for a job in PC World which basically said that a "knowledge of computing was not necessary as training will be given but a background in sales is desirable".

A mate of mine worked at Game and it was similiar they just wanted people with sales skills not knowledge.

Is it a surprise our high streets are dead when bosses are so clearly focused on profits and not service. Companies claim that service is always a priority but I rarely experience that in practice.

Customers can be incredibly thick at times though, I worked in a bookshop and they would come in to collect an order, moan about why we could not find the book, so we would check other branches on the system to find they had bloody come into the wrong branch ! (This happened on a daily basis).

Re: Dixons shoppers branded 'stupid'

Having also worked for quite sometime in PC World (thankfully, no longer) it does work both ways.

I won't deny that they did employ staff who were interested more in the commission rather then the customer's needs (though speaking to the store now, they have changed the way this all works - no more individual commission, just total store performance), and that we did have the fair share of clueless idiots on the shop floor. There are several of us who have all moved on to bigger and better things as well.

I had some pretty clueless customers (I worked on the service side only, disagreed with the sales style of the time!) - saw one who got violent because their camera broke after a few hours of use, at a party or something. Thing is, trying to explain the concept of either charging it, or changing the batteries was pretty hard... "I did that" - the camera was completely uncharged when I saw it, and worked as soon as I put a new set in. I gave them the set of batteries only for them to throw the camera at me - nice.

My point... some staff are not that bright, but nor are some of the customers and it's not fair to tar everyone with the same brush.
