Re: Oldest UK television discovered

As a child I had an early interest in all things electronic. Somebody gave me an old TV set to 'play with'. It had a 9" round tube. The television signals were tuned into on the radio dial; it received radio as well. It did not work, and obviously generated potenially dangerous voltages which my parents, and I, were unaware of. In the end I broke it up mainly to get at the 12" diameter loudspeaker which worked by passing mains through the outer coil. Ouch !. My first encounter with hi-fi ! Alas the rest of the kit was dumped. I'm guessing that the set was pre-war. I still beat myself up about what I did today. Still at 12 I didn't know any better.

A local dealer has numbers of old working sets, but nothing as old as 1936. He is able to incorporate the line conversion and fit freeview to enable them to work with present day signals. I guess a lot of people would no longer tolerate the 'warming up' times before these sets spring into life.

If you got an RF modulator for your 360 (does the 360 even have one as an accessory?) then it does.
