The power amplifier of 8200MB Audiolab is the same as the Tag Mclaren 250MR.

[QUOTE=Coup330;14223551]you should have ordered better speakers combining them with the electronic you bought. kef reference would be best, minimum kef xq. it makes no sense to drive entry level speakers with high-end stuff.[/QUOTE

The KEFQ700 have been successfully used with Naim equipment. I would not class the AUdiolab mono blocks within the high end category. Looking at the price of the CD player and mono blocks I think the Q700 should suffice. If you can buy me a pair of KEF REF I would be most obliged.

TAG 250 MR's and electrostatics

I'm using my TAG 250MR's to drive a pair of Quad 2905's and a third to drive a Martin Logan Theatre Centre.

The sound is amazing - clarity, 3D soundstage, dynamic, an improvement over the TAG 125M that I was using before (These now drive my ML rears).

One feature I like about them is that they put themselves in standby when not in use, which saves electricity and enables me to locate under the floor in a a large void, but very near the speakers, enabling me to use speaker cables of around a metre in length.

I'm now looking at getting a Parasound P7 to control them with balanced connectors to replace my TAG AV32, as I mainly listen to SACD and watch Blu-ray via the multichannel bypass.

I'm thinking that these Audiolabs at half the price of the TAG's are a bargain.

Hello everyone. Here is the continuation and the end of the mutation of AudioLab 8200MB to the Tag Mclaren 250MR. Kevin got me a transformer that we see in the pictures. I removed the circuit board of 8200MB. I have everything back on the block that provided me with Kevin. Everything works perfectly.

Great thread, sounds like a bargain to be had.

So how good are the 8200MB anyway?

The 8200MB is less powerful than TagMclaren. There is less current, the 8200MB transformer is smaller. It's still an excellent amplifier.

Hi,

How does this compare to the likes of Tag 100x5r? One of the modules, in terms of power, sound quality, dynamic range, ease of driver of difficult loads.
I'm thinking to get a few for my B&W 800 series as Tag 100x5r lacks the ability to drive the 800 series properly.

The 8200MB (250W) is much more powerful than 100X5R modules (130W). This is a great amp but 250MR is a little above. The electronics are the same, only the transformer is a little lower.

Thanks.

Compared to Tag 250w mono block amp are the reserve capacitors the same? Just trying to understand how it's less powerful than the Tag equivalent. You mention that the transformer is smaller, but the rest of the electronics are the same.
Maybe Tag just over engineered when it came to transformer?

The transformer provides the power. That of the 8200MB gives less power. The 8200MB is less powerful. The reserve capacitors are the same. I do not speak English very well, it would be easier for me in French.

The role of a power unit is to provide enough energy (or power) to the audio signal from the source (CD player, tuner, etc.). To power speakers. This energy is supplied to the output stages by a fuel system that "draws its resources" in the field (220 V / 50 Hz in France).

Hi,

I'm sorry I don't speak French but your is good.

If the output voltage is the same for both transformers then they are similar. The only difference being the physical size of transformer. If this is the case from what you say-
Tag amp = audiolab amp minus the comms part which doesn't exist in the audiolab. Plus the cosmetic stuff- the case is different.

I dismantle a 250MR. I measured the diameter of the conductors of the transformer primary. They are larger than those of 8200MB. The show features 8200MB 380VA and 650VA those of the 250MR.

Oh I see, 250MR will be able supply higher current to reserve capacitors than the 8200MB transformer. Giving 250MR better transient peaks, possibly better dynamics.

Did you change the transformer as well in your conversion, to a 250MR?

Yes, Kevin gave me a transformer 250MR. I replaced that of 8200MB. Seen in the pictures.

Is there enough space in the 8200MB to accommodate the 250MR transformer if one wanted to upgrade?

yes, there was enough room. The difference is not very important. The problem is to find a transformer TAG.

380VA to 650VA is over 1.5 times, Audiolab have throttled this amp. Why I ask at the cost of few pounds?
Did u ever do a comparison of the two?

My 2 weeks with the 8200MB

Hi all,
This is my 1st time here. I actually got myself a pair of the MB 2 weeks and have been enjoying it enormously! Got it for abt USd1100 for the pair. Hooked it up to my vintage Classe audio DR6 (gold handle) driving a pair of Roger Marquis floorstanders. Source is a moderate Marantz cd6003 as transport thru DacMagic.
I actually spent time reading review in the web on this amp but not much source. came across this thread and pulled the trigger.
Imaging is excellent, can hear the music 'jump out' of the speakers as i listened to my collection of Led Zep and my rick collection. Audiophile CDs are just so juicy! I liked the good and loud yet controlled bass. Sitting far away from the sweetspot, i could still hear almost the complete range of the frequencies. Amazing product. I earlier used Rotel 1070 and audiolab 8000x7 bridged, but no match to this MBs. Hope to write more as i spend more time with it (wife complaining i've less time for her )

TMA amplifier transformers

Hi,

How much would Original TMA 250mr Transformers be worth to someone?
