I just want to share some of my recent experiences with tab 7.7.
I've been thinking of buying a Bluetooth headset for ages. Now I have a tab that can make and receive phone calls (staying in my backpack!) and I can listen to my music collection while on the move, so it all sounds rather interesting.
Being honest I was avoiding bluetooth for music because of the way A2DP deals with an audio stream. It does re-encode it using internal SBC codec and then transmits it to the headset where it is decoded and amplified. After all this manipulations Bluetooth headsets usually sound very dull at best.
Recently an alternative to SBC called APT-X was introduced and Tab 7.7 supports it. It is actually very old codec developed in the 80s. It was used in broadcasting for many years. I am not sure which flavor of APT-X is supported by Bluetooth, but there are near-lossless profiles defined by APT-X codec and this could be a very big improvement over standard A2DP.
So I did a search and found Samsung HS3000:
link. Looks like a perfect candidate: apt-x, calls, I can use my own headphones (finally!!!).
I bought it last week and it arrived on Saturday. So I used it over the weekend. Short summary:
Used it mostly with my Sure SE530 (on a short lead), sound quality is pretty decent. It is not perfect cable replacement, but close to it. I actually liked the sound signature of the headset DAC better than Tab's built-in DAC. I liked the fact that I can roam around the house listening to the music. A few times I had some dropouts and clicks when I went into a far corner of the house.
Tried it with some other phones (without apt-x) and noticed dullness immediately.
I made a few calls and it worked very well. It also stays connected to my phone (or wife's phone

) and my tab at the same time, so I can receive phone calls from both of them. I could not figure out how to use voice dialing yet, this would be beneficial when the tab is in my backpack. I only managed to dial the last number.
It does a kind of a voice guidance. Scratchy female voice says things like "power on", etc. I might switch it off eventually.
Battery life seems not bad. I have it fully charged on Saturday and it lasted till Monday evening through all my experiments. I guess it lasted probably for 4-5 hours switched on and 3 days stand by.
Well for £26 it looks like a good value to me.
