Best subwoofer £500 and under?
Best advice on a sub for under £500 (or thereabouts)
Existing set up is an Eltax Syphony system bought 3 years ago from Richer sounds. Moving to a new house and the cinema room (lounge) is 22' x 14'.
No ideas as to what to buy. Read good reports on the REL 150 and the Quake. People on here mention Uncle Eric and Velodyne. Who he and what are Velodyne. Bit of an ignoramus here I'm afraid.
Also anyone ideas as to where I can demo any suggestions in the M62 corridor - Leeds to Liverpool.

Uncle Eric's power buys on the Velodyne subs are a great deal. I know this because I've got the CHT-10 from him. His services is excellent and the prices are unbeatable.
From the main page of the forum scroll down to near the bottom of the screen and you will see the 'Power Buy' section. You will see in there just how many Velo subs he has sold to people on this forum and see their feedback.
Eric is an AV retailer who is always on the forum and does special deals for the forum members.

The best (for about the millionth time) new sub for <500.00 (and i my opinion 1000.00) is the Servo 15 if size is not an issue.

Velodyne are a US brand distributed in the UK by a company local to me in Edinburgh centre of the HiFi World dont you know!!!
See www.velodyne.com for full info on the current range.
Look at the CHT10 and CHT12 within your budget and if space is at a premium and you have an elastic budget look at the SPL800.

If you order it via an RS store, and collect it from there, you won't have to pay delivery, and you only need an X.30 if you don't have any other bass management device - if you're going to be plugging the sub into the subwoofer output of a home cinema processor then the X.30 is (usually) redundant.

which company might this be and do they have somewhere in the Edinburgh area that can provide me with a demo (of a VX-10). also do their prices in any way rival Uncle Eric's great deals?

A search in Google will bring up the importer's details and their site will show you all the approved retailers. Whilst most of the dealers will be keen to sell to you at RRP some healthy bartering will produce at least a 10% discount and maybe more.
Bear in mind that the original question was about £500 subwoofers whereas you are now talking about a demo of a budget sub and the VX10 is not in the same league as a Servo 15 although it is considerable smaller.

Give Loud & Clear in Stockbridge a shout if you want a dem (I cant vouch for the price they will offer you) - though as IanJ says if you have the budget you should really be looking at the CHT-10.

cheers for the advice. i was not specifically replying to the topic with regards the best 500 pound sub-woofer but i am interested in the Velodyne range and being able to go somewhere locally to demo would be handy. a comparison between the VX-10 and CHT-10 might also be interesting like you suggest although i am currently most interested in the VX-10...
