Hi there and Welcome to the forum.........first off if what you say is the case i would read through the manual which came with your sub......it will give you all the info on which knobs do what.
You are going to also need a spl / sound level meter to help find the best position for the sub's response in the room.........someone who knows this particular svs sub can give you more info on knob position etc will probably / should chime in here!!

Re: help to set up my new sub
Yes, stop being a bloke and read the manual
Setting up a subwoofer is not a plug and play experience unless you are damn lucky. I am not 100% sure of the controls on the back of the SB12 but know some of the other SVS subs and will advise on the controls I have come across.
Crossover: set this to maximum or off. Let your Receiver control the crossover not the sub. Ideally try it at 80hz, come back to this later if you wish to experiment but it is the THX suggested crossover and a good place to start.
Room Compensation: Turn this off. What this does is roll off the output to varying degrees to compensate for room gain. On the PB13U all it did was rob you of the goodies below 30hz even in a relatively small room. I assume it will be similiar with the SB so turn it off unless you are advised otherwise by someone who knows better.
Gain: This is a bit like the volume control, set it around 10:00 or 1/3 - 1/2 of full volume. The exact position means little as you will use the level controls on your receiver to adjust the actual volume relative to the other speakers.
Q, Level and Frequency: These are collectively known as PEQ or paremetric equalisation and are used to try and remove a single problematic room mode in your listening position. Until you have an SPL meter and have runs a sweep on your room (Ideally with REW) leave these alone, make sure the level is at '0'.
That should start you off, remember the best bit of the manual is where they recommend all the good bass bits from various films. Enjoy!
If you find you have problems with boom or a monotonous note to the bass. You probably have a nasty room mode and best come back here for help.

Look, I'll help anyone, but the one request I do have is don't use text (read lazy) speak. This is an english language forum; Use it.
You know that 'knob' has a 'k' so don't type you as 'u'. I'm perfectly happy to expend a lot of time to help you - Indeed, as much as you need. So save me having to bust a gut to understand your posts.
I've set up a couple of SB12s and a good few others besides, so I can help you out, but try making it easy for me to help you.
Yours, the English Language Liberation Front,
Russell

The first impression with such a sub is good, but listen to it more carefully and see if you can follow the bass tunes. "Boom" or a "monotonous note" may be fun at the beginning, specially when they are so low, but you will be bored after a while.
