Monitor audio gsw 12 sub (thoughts please)
Hi,
Does anyone here own the above or have any experience of listening to the above? i know in most peoples eyes you can get a better sub for less money, but don't have the space for a cylinder or monolith. I have had the sub from the silver series for the last couple of days and must say have been really impressed, with most of my movies now being watched -16db rather than -8-10db with my old sub! I'm caught in the cross-fire of listening to a sub but then reading about another that claims to handle lower frequency (15-18hz)
The above seems to be what a sub is all about, yet to my very modest ears i can allready hear a big difference from my pv1 and i'm left wondering exactly when does the specs on the paper between subs start to be a question of debate over real world difference and experience.
Any comments would as allways be welcomed..
Thanks
Owen

Re: Monitor audio gsw 12 sub (thoughts please)
every single item of monitor audio equipment i have heard has blown me away, and when looking at the price makes them superb for the money!
i own a BRW10 subwoofer and it really is fabulous!!! a friend of mine has a B&W ASW675 which is about twice the price and really is no different.
i have also heard the Wharfedale sub which what hi-fi give 5 stars but wasnt overly impressed on the sound, build quality or asthetics.
saving up for some GS20 Speakers now :-)
monitor audio kit really is sweet

I don't know where to start with that.

Re: Monitor audio gsw 12 sub (thoughts please)
I thought the OP had purchased a PC+
Wouldn't you typically want to watch movies at a slightly higher level with a better well set up sub as you've reduced any boominess/distortion, so would wind it up to get more decent bass?
PS I like Ilkka's graph of THD for the BRW10

Re: Monitor audio gsw 12 sub (thoughts please)
As soon as i unpacked the cylinder it's presence in the lounge was imense, living on my own i may have put up with it, even though i was amazed at the size of it! my partner just said "no way" so i'm having to return it.
Now on the lookout for a sub and the above mentioned one titled in this thread interests me.
I'm not for one second doubting how good the cylinder would have been or even one or 2 of the other forum favourites(you know the ones)
The size, looks and specs look like they tick all the boxes i want, so now will try before i buy and see what suits me best!

Re: Monitor audio gsw 12 sub (thoughts please)
I suppose that all forum advice should be taken in the context that you've made sure that you've done the basic groundwork of 'will it fit' etc, yourself.
I'm just glad you didn't buy a PC13U or 20-39+, because if you think the PC 25-31i is big....
Owen, exactly what is your budget and what are your size constraints? Consideration of the GSW-12 moves you into a considerably different market place to the circa £500 the PCi cost.
I'm not diScounting the GSW-12, but asking for more presice criteria on which to base a suggestion.
Russell
PS. The RSW-12 is broadly analogous to the SVS SB12+ which is obviously cheaper and sports the potentially useful single band of PEQ. The GSW-12 should therefore be the next step up, but then you have to factor in Velodyne SPL-1200Rs and if you're feeling truly adventurous, imported DD12s which are in another league altogether.

Re: Monitor audio gsw 12 sub (thoughts please)
Regarding size i can go about 1.5" H,W,D bigger an RSW12, with a discount
the RSW12 will only be about £40 more expensive. My budget after discount is £800 on the money and not a penny more, it was the 20-39pc+ that i had delivered and not 25-31, extremely ashamed to say i confused diameter with circumfrence and the footprint it left along with the height was a sight and a half
The comment i made about my listening volume being lower by 8-10db was aimed at my night time volume, so will push the rsw12 when off work. In a nutshell looking for an attractive, well built subwoofer that will last me a fair few years and will have plenty left in it for a bigger lounge when we move house. The one thing i'm aware of though is at what stage does the sub become a mismatch for my 5x M1S, as a speaker upgrade is not on the agenda.
Regards
Owen
