My ears are bleeding :)

I finally went for REW, my home theatre stopped outputting any sound and I had to do roll back in XP to get any sound out of the computer at alll..

We fought it with all afternoon and failed...

and went for the graph paper approach...

we have no sound until 56Hz then all hell breaks loose

Re: My ears are bleeding :)

You didn't read the help file properly then by the sound of it, as REW mutes all the sound outputs as soon as you start it up
You need to go into the sound settings to unmute everything.

Then again in your defence, it is a big chunk to take in.

Re: My ears are bleeding :)

And we then spent all afternoon trying unmuting everything with the aid of the help files

then did it the old fashioned way with pen and paper

Re: My ears are bleeding :)

Start-control panel-sounds and audio devices-Volume tab, Advanced

I don't quite understand those figures.
It seems you applied a 10dB gain increase at 50hz, but got a reduction in SPL

Probably me mis-reading them though.

Re: My ears are bleeding :)

The graph is what I got without any filtering, with my son taking data 5m from the sub. That's my sub now

The filter settings are what we are recommended to enter into the BFD.

Re: My ears are bleeding :)

First time I ran REW it took me 2 days to get a consistant reading and when I posted it on here everyone complained about the size of the graph that I'd posted.

My 2p: The calibration files make all the difference in the measuring and the 1/3 octave smoothing in the reading.

Re: My ears are bleeding :)

I'm more interested in why my sub is happily pumping out 110 db at 7hz...

but that null at 60hz is a bummer...

Dave

PS Damn, I've messed up the file so can't get the recommended filter data back. Now I need to be nice to someone...

Re: My ears are bleeding :)

thanks badger

My son spent a long time taking figures down for me from the spl meter. I was devastated I'd messed it up and lost it.

Mrs D has pitched in and the graph will be back

We stopped at 7hz, perhaps we should have continued

It was happily pumping out 70.1 uncorrected decibels to the RS meter at 7hz

Re: My ears are bleeding :)

You'll be told by most people not to use more than a 2 or 3dB increase in gain.

Never worried me though

My feeling is they can handle it

Re: My ears are bleeding :)

I can only get 56 decibels out of it at 1hz from 5m away, it's frequency response is really plumetting

Re: My ears are bleeding :)

Dave, I'd love to help but inspite of multiple tries this afternoon, I still can't get the basted thing to work; Even 4.10 doesn't seem to deliver.

I may have to get a vicar in, have my self blessed and buy a cheap PC.

Re: My ears are bleeding :)

Blimey that's some sub.

I reckon you'll get about 50dB at -5 hz
