Thumbs down Sunfire

I'm very rarely compelled to write in a forum, but I feel I should pass along the experience I've had with Sunfire to help others avoid the same. Several years ago I purchased a Sunfire True Subwoofer Mark IV. It functioned well and had excellent sound. I can say without a doubt that it was never abused and was never run to its limits. I purchased an extended warranty to protect my investment due to the cost of the unit. Not but a few months after the warranty expired so did the sub. It would constantly pop on and off while watching a movie or TV. I contacted Sunfire and was greeted rather rudely by the receptionist. After finally getting through to a person in repair who apparently had better things to do, I was told the only thing I could do is send it in to be refurbished for $450 plus the cost of shipping it to them. They would not sell me parts or help me diagnose the problem because I was not a authorized dealer. For the cost of this equipment I would expect a little customer service. In my opinion stay away from Sunfire and save your self the trouble.

Re: Sunfire

Hi and welcome As you in the states I was just wondering where Sunfire were based and if they are based here in England. I can understand them wanting to do it themselves as its a very expensive peice of gear. Theres no excuse for rudeness though.

Re: Sunfire

We deal with Sunfire, however the OP is obviously in the US. If you're not having any luck with Sunfire directly, perhaps talking to the supplier may prove to be more fruitful, especially if the unit is only just out of warranty.

Re: Sunfire

I'm always slightly wary of single post new members with an axe to grind.

My initial thoughts are that the Sub was well out of the manufacturers warranty. The OP is clearly confused by the extended warranty which is in fact insurance provided by a third party and is in no way related to Sunfire who have derived precisely no benefit from it's sale. As far as they're concerned, it's a 2 or 3 year old sub and that's your luck and quite rightly so.

As regards customer service, that's what a dealer is for. After all, they get the profit from the sub AND commission from selling the insurance so why not make them help. The good ones always will.

Anyway, exactly how long after the clearly stated manufacturers warranty should good will repairs extend? 1 month? 1 year? 2, 3?

Ever since working in hifi and photography I've always said the same thing; Find out how much the extended warranty for a product is and then put precisely that amount in a jar. Do that for every product you buy and you'll be more than covered if a statistically unlikely out of warranty repair is required. As has been shown time and time again, you'll be less out of pocket in the long run and for the really big ones, there's your home and contents insurance which you're already shelling out for.

Re: Sunfire

I completely agree with Russ.Wills post and the OP should of gone back to his dealer where he bought it and let them handle the repairs

I am going to close this now as this does not rightly reflect Sunfire as a company but more like a poster with ulterior motive.
