Help, Kef sub not producing sound.

Its a kef 2005.2 sub. Its connected to my Onky 875 and was working fine last week. I came home this weekend and its not producing any sound, nothing in my setup has changed. When my amp is turned on the red light on the back of the sub turns green to signify the amp has turned itself on and is detecting the signal but it just produces no sound and I dont know why.
When I first tried the sub I had to connect it to the amp and mains and leave it for a while to sort its head out (I suppose) otherwise, if i tried to use it straight away it made a weird sound like an electrical buzz, but not from the speaker it sounded like the amp. Anyway I left it for a few minutes tried again and it worked, now its just not producing any sound at all ever even though it looks like its a fine.

One other thing is the cable runs round the back of a radiator, this shouldnt affect it, should it?

Re: Help, Kef sub not producing sound.

I've got the KEF 1005s and my amp went off once too ...... checked the knobs on the back of the sub. The switch controls on/off/auto but there is a knob dial for controlling sensitivity (or something like that).

Mine had been accidentally moved round to more or less zero when I was plugging in my PS3 and no matter what I did to the amp bass level wouldn't move it .... one tweak of the knob and hey presto!

hope this works.

Re: Help, Kef sub not producing sound.

I've already checked all the settings on the amp and on the sub, I even turned everything right up to see if I could get any life from it but nothings happened

Hi moonfly,it sounds as if you've succumbed to the common problem that affects what is otherwise an excellent sub.Ive just had the same problem occur four days ago so I rang the store I puchased the system from and took the sub in for repair,I've had the 2005.2 sub/sats for four years now and assumed it was out of warranty but when I looked for the reciept I found a Kef 5 year warranty card so took it to the store too. Before I went I did a search on this site and found archive's of people with the same fault occuring,a couple of them had the fault repaired by sending the amplifier part of the sub direct to Kef in Kent at a cost of £50.Anyway I've just recieved a call from the store to say they've repaired it,on talking to Neil from the service dept he said that he contacted Kef and they authourised the repair free of charge accepting either the 5yr warranty or the fact that its a design fault,he replaced some capacitors with better ones and like the advice online recommended switching off at the plug when not in use when left in auto mode which I will be doing in future,I'am looking at those power saving extention sockets that turn off automaticaly but I'am not sure!.Hope this is of some help, good luck

Re: Help, Kef sub not producing sound.

I picked the 2005.2 package up for £100 including speaker wire, stand, all the sats and sub, I didnt even want it just couldnt refuse the price. In the past Ive always been put of kef because of reported problems with Sub PSU's which is why I went with the speakers in my sig and am currently looking for an independant sub of choice, I pretty dissapointed that this has hit me but I'm not supprised. Shame really as its not a bad package.

Cheers for the help, although I have no receipt so will probably be forking out the £50 myself, still a bargain at £150 though eh?
