Mirage BPS-150i Subwoofer
Hi people, newbie here!
Ive bought a Mirage BPS-150i sub, the twin 8" one.
running alongside some mission m33's.
Connected to my yamaha av amp a5925 or something similar.
My problem being its all in my room, before i bought the sub i could whack the volume up, with alot of bass coming through the m33's, (spiked) and people downstairs didnt complain at all it was fine.
Now ive got this mirage sub, i cant even turn it up the tiniest bit before im getting calls turn it down its making an awful noise downstairs!!
It hasnt got spikes, but ive received the spikes he forgot to give me with the sale today in the post, and am wondering, will this solve my problem, or is there any other things i can buy to stop the bass from going through the floor into downstairs?
Should i use the rubber spikes or metal spikes?
Ive got a wooden floor.
Thanks in advance

You could try placing a concrete slab or granite slab underneath it this should help to isolate it from the wood floor.

Re: Mirage BPS-150i Subwoofer
thanks for that, is this with the spikes on the sub, or off the sub?
will putting the spikes on when i get home, stop some bass going through to downstairs at all or is that not what spikes are for?

Re: Mirage BPS-150i Subwoofer
the spikes wont stop the noise going down stairs to be honest,
just turn it up then you cant hear them knocking the door to complain in the 1st place, thus they aint complaining!

Re: Mirage BPS-150i Subwoofer
Hmm okay,
I guess i will get a paving slab from homebase or similar.
look a bit odd, unles i get one that the sub will actually fully cover.
and leave the spikes off .

Re: Mirage BPS-150i Subwoofer
you may also just happen to have the sub in a spot where the long bass waves are really exciting and resonating the room below, try moving the sub in different places (though this is a huge compromise if you have it in the spot thats best sounding for your room)

Re: Mirage BPS-150i Subwoofer
Placing a slab underneath the sub or using spikes (which do the opposite of isolate) will make little difference.
What little mechanical vibration there should be, would be best absorbed by either an Auralex Gramma or a stack of carpet tiles - in other words absorb the vibration through compliant mounting.
However, it will make little difference as the vast majority of the energy output by the sub comes, unsurprisingly, from the driver which you can't damp. This acoustic output is capable of quite literally flexing the floor and so passing any bass straight though it into the room below. This room, aside from hearing all of your bass, will also resonate at it's own frequencies too.
There's nothing you can do about it except turn the sub down.
Russell
