Sub placement

Due to the size of my sub (one that came with my Aego T's) and the corresponding size (or lack of) of my living room my Sub has been placed on top of my AV cabinet. The sound has always been good - I was just wondering whether this is a complete no-no. It's just that there is no logical or available wife/cat friendly floor space available.

Does any one else have a sub woofer placed around ear level and should I try and re-jig the layout?

Re: Sub placement

Vertical subwoofer placement is often ignored because it's impractical, but there is a school of thought that the ideal position is about two feet off the floor. It's no coincidence, this is normally about 1/4 of the way to the ceiling, which is ideal for combating the 50-60Hz 'room boom' associated with this dimension.

Or in other words, unless it's vibrating the crap out of any components in the cabinet no, it's not a problem.

Re: Sub placement

It's certainly not creating any issues with the kit in the cabinet and to my ears it sounds good and the bass seems to be coming from all around the soundscape. However, I'd say it's about 5feet off the ground and the top of it is head height. The ceiling height is about 11ft so maybe this explains it still sounding ok.

Thanks for your reply.
