getting sub for hi-fi

hi guys ive just bought this sub

http://www.richersounds.com/showprod...-308-AVANT-SIL

but if i want to i can take it back in 14 days and get this bad boy but i cant justify spending all that cash on just a sub

http://www.richersounds.com/showprod...-309-AVANT-MAP

ps. also say my sub the mordaunt short 308 can do 80 watts rms and say down the line i get speakers that do 150 watts rms will my speakers cancel out the sub (cant hear the bass because the speakers are loud) if so is it worth me getting the expensiver sub the mordaunt short 309 that is 150 watt rms the same as the speakers

Re: getting sub for hi-fi

The idea of a sub is that it will go down to lower frequencies than your speakers, so irrespective of volume out put, you;d still know it's there. Also, unless you're driving your speakers full pelt all the time, the sub would integrate ok.

The 309 is a great sub, more for movies, but it does have a 'music' setting. The 308, is o.k, but a bit slow and ponderous, and I'm not sure I'd want it in a stereo set up.

Re: getting sub for hi-fi

Anyone able to suggest a good sub that would go well with a pair of Morduant short MS20i PE speakers dual use for both music and movies..

Any suggestions?

Would the 309's fit in well ?

Anything else i should look at if im on a tight budget ?

I reckon (at least on paper) BK Gimini or XLS200 would be a better alternative to MS309..

Re: getting sub for hi-fi

if you are running a full size pair of floorstanders, forget the Gemini, its basically an REL Quake with a different name and cheaper, having owned an REL Quake i can tell you that they are good with smaller speakers, but get overwhelmed easily by decent size floorstanders......the XLS200 would do better, but even then it could find the floorstanders will go louder and the XLS200 gets bottomed out......i dont know for certain, but its possible......being honest, check the forum powerbuys for a cheap SVS PB10, or save up enough for the BK Monolith or a normal price SVS PB10 or PB12-NSD.....then you'll get a sub that can par with floorstanders
