What happened to the free beer thread?

I was following the free beer thread on the impending russ.will sub reviews and can't find the thread - has the idea been ditched?

Re: What happened to the free beer thread?

Did someone say free beer?

It hasn't disappeared, but following some PMs, is awaiting the return of Phil Hinton from his holidays to progress the idea further. He is a busy boy and these things can take time, but rest assured the forum WILL be kept up to date on progress. I promise.

The idea is currently that sub reviews, being as contensious as they are (apparently), will be aided and abetted by the forums power to drag subs in for audition. This is good.

The main problem I found was that it was all to easy to get all of the forum favourite subs (in multiples) for audition. I wanted the high street favourites for comparrison, without which, it was just going to be going over old ground.

I, like many others, could probably suggest a pecking order for the Gemini/XLS-200/PB-10/SB-12/Monolith/PB-12nsd/PB-12plus/PB-12plus2 (Whoops! I've just done it ), but wanted to paint these subs in the pantheon of all of the subs we more commonly read about in the press. Where would a REL T-1 fit in that line up for instance?

As I have twitchy feet and like something to do, I may post the odd thread in terms of subjects that official sub reviews might, or could not cover.

I fancy the idea of a Monolith v Dual Monolith setup v PB-12/Ultra day. Interesting, possibly a bit pointless, but may provide some info as regards what performance your money 'if you think out of the box' can buy.

Or how about, two SB-12s (you can hide) v The Ultra (you can't). You know, tackle some of the other topics that get raised, that can't be satisfied by organised sub tests.

I keep mentioning the Ultra because I know a man with one easily persuaded into such frivolity plus it's broadly comparable to the current 12.3 driver 'Plus', even if he thinks it's waaAAAaayyy better.

Once, I've got some long standing engagements out of the way (20 years school reunion ), I'll start putting the feelers out.

Russell
