New Mission MS8 Please help!
Hi,
I just received a Mission MS8 Sub from a guy on ebay who said it was brand new and he hadn't even taken it out of the box.
I unpakcaed it and it has a 2pin moulded plug on it. I borrowed a 2pin plug adaptor which has a 13A fuse in it so that should be fine right?
Anyway, I set it to Auto and it doesn't seem to reliably switch on, it did switch on when there was a big boom which seemed to activate it, so many thats fine.
But I turned off the receiver and the sub didn't turn it self of, I left it for a few mins just to make sure, and still the light was green and did not change to red.
Also, it constantly seems to make a very slight but audible hum, even when switched to 'off' i.e. standbye with the red light.
Is this normal ?? do they normally come with moulded 2 pin plugs ?? I am worried the hum may just be as a result of a bad connection in the 2 pin plug adaptor as its not that tight fitting...
any advice appreciated!! thanks

Re: New Mission MS8 Please help!
A little more testing has shown it will turn it self off after around 20 mins of the receiver being off so that is fine.
The receiver thinks the sub is too loud so it has set it to -7 channel level which I think may be causing a problem with it coming on automatically, am going to try a lower volume on the sub knobs because it did definitely come on when I turned the amp up really loud with an action seen from minority report, but the same scene didn't turn it on at a lower more normal volume.
But does anyone know if its normal for them to come with a 2pin plug or does it mean this is definitely a euro import ?
Also the humming noise... it seemed to get lsightly quieter when I pulled the plug slightly out of the adaptor which made a better connection, but that may just be me talking my self into it
Any ideas or experience with this?
I read about another guy with a humming problem and this sub but there wasn't much info or a conclusion ...

If it has a moulded 2 pin plug fitted to it then it is not a UK sourced product. You may have difficulty in the future if you have any servicing requirements.

Not necessarily true. I have Sony stuff with the same thing. It is possible the plug has just been removed and used on something else. But if it was new it should be on it or at least in the box. Mission are in the UK so its what they do so there stuff can be used elsewhere. See the link below for what you need. Mods, I'm just helping him out.

Re: New Mission MS8 Please help!
Thanks for the reply.
I just abought one of those exact plugs last night from ebay so hopefully that should do the trick
What do you mean by 'It is possible the plug has just been removed and used on something else' ? Are you saying it may have been supplied with a 3pin adaptor as in the link but has been removed and that is why it is now just the plain 2pin ? As the guy said he hadn't even removed the sub from the box, which did look true.

Re: New Mission MS8 Please help!
It would have been better to cut the plug off and fit a 3pin.

Re: New Mission MS8 Please help!
But that would surely void any warranty with it being pretty much brand new and Mission offering a 2 year guarantee ?

I would contact mission and ask them ,but can't see why it would ,i would contact them anyway concerning the warranty.
I would be wary with anyone on ebay offering a warranty .

Re: New Mission MS8 Please help!
Basicly the guy bought the sub for his speaker system but before it even arrived his rear speakers broke so he decided to sell it. I didn't ask precisely but I can only assume he decided to buy a whole new speaker package. I also bought a Sub cable from him for £5 which was also brand new, so I think I beleive him.
He has said I can return it if I am unhappy at all.
I have already tried contacting mission but I got through to the service department after a maze of extensions and 'nicki' who knows about Mission stuff is not in today
Have her email address though so will give that a go when I ger aorund to it

Yes, that is exactly what I'm saying so what you have from the bay is probably exactly the same as what Mission would have provided new if it was to be sold in the UK. If it was to be sold elsewhere then maybe Mission don't put it in the box. Putting the plug adapter on is as simple as fitting a fuse so you shouldn't have any problems.
